My Nissan 200sx has over 140k miles on it and I dont think it is going to go much further. I have been considering rebuilding the engine and extending its life rather than buying a new car. Does anyone out there have a good idea of how much I am going to be spending if I hire a mechanic to do the job?

The 1.6 GA motor is done. The rest of the car is perfect? I think not. Do your self a favor and test drive a new Sentra or Altima. And keep moving up the automotive food chain. We will welcome you to the 21st Century. Either 4 Cyl. car will get better gas milage than the old 200SX have more room and much more HP for passing.
Don't make the mistake of putting a $3,000 new motor in a car and have a transmission go out. Sell it fast

140K is not that many miles for a Nissan. You sure you just don't need a tune-up? In most cases, you car is just getting broken in.

Expect the engine rebuild to cost about $3500 from start to finish. But before you jog down to your local machine shop, run over to your mechanic and have him do an engine compression check. You might find that the engine is fine, but it hasn't been tuned up since '99.

first of all it incredibly is a small motor vehicle. i think of it incredibly is a good decision for a primary motor vehicle GA-sixteen motor 200sx are no longer speedy the two.0 liter vehicles are lots better. Lot's of 200sx have been computerized trans or perhaps slower. the two vehicle and instruction manual vehicles are waiting to get 30 miles a gallon extensive-unfold trans 32mpg with the small motor. Any 12 year previous motor vehicle could have placed on and tear issues. So a good mechanical verify up previously purchase. GA-sixteen had around one hundred ten hp and the two.0 liter motor has 134 hp
