The good folks in the Christian community who live by their beliefs, and allow others to do the same are far outweighed by those who continually insult and condemn everyone else to "hell". Makes me feel sorry for the nice folks who are associated with those others. Opinions from the real Christians out there would be much appreciated. Thank you.

As a Christian, I could not agree more! I am embarrassed by many that profess the same faith as I. I believe Christ's love is better communicated by demonstration than condemnation and judgment, however well intended.
Brightest Blessings

I've said this before, but I feel the people like that are very insecure, either in themselves or their beliefs or both. One of the biggest problems is the minister that tells his/her congregation that they are the only ones who are right. Those people will condemn other Christians and anyone else they deem unacceptable. What is sad is that they are turning off most of the people they encounter but they don't realize it. Also, I think the ego plays a big part in it as well. They seem to have this need for everyone to believe what they do and as they do. Again, I think it stems from insecurity. I'll stop rambling now. :)

Yes there are some on here from both sides of the issue, that instead of stating an opinion, tend to either make fun of or put down the other side. I think any one has the right to have an opposing opinion, as long as it is done with respect. I am talking about Christians and atheists alike. But I am afraid that as long as there are as diverse amount of people on here as there is, we will always have those on both sides that do not respect the others opinions. And I agree that is sad. Why can't all people just agree to disagree with out being rude or disrespectful about it?

I once worked with a retired Christian Minister who I really respected. He told me that he was often sought after to conduct funerals and weddings. I asked him what he said to a widow or spouse who had lost their mate and they were fearful that their husband or mate would go to hell because they hadn't lived a "Christian life" or perhaps weren't "saved."
His response was, "I tell them we have a loving and merciful God." He didn't judge and he demonstrated compassion and tolerance. He was through his faith and his humanity able to help those in grief and others. That, I think is a powerful message and one we should hold onto. People of other faiths often live lives that are very "Christ like" I don't think we can judge them and if we believe in a "loving and merciful God" then we don't have to worry about condemnation and instead we can learn from each other and practice tolerance. If there is judgment needed that may result in where one goes after death I think we can leave that to God. Those who feel otherwise are casting stones and may be better served by looking at themselves. Go in Peace with God's blessing.

Well sometimes I do see Christians being aggressive on here. The thing is were not trying to oppose what someone believes, we are simply stating the truth.
We are in a constant battle to win people over from darkness (which is anything that is not of God) We have to convince them through our actions, and words.
So next time you have a Christian coming at you hard ( A Bible Thumper) just know they are not there to hurt you, but to help you get Saved.
We dont want to see anyone go to Hell, and it is written that we spread the Word of God.
So that is what we do-we answer questions here on Yahoo. we minister door to door, we post bullitens on Myspace. We do whatever we can to get the true Word out.
I pray that this blessed you. Have a wonderful day.

As a christian i believe that every one has the right to believe what ever they like, christianty or any other belief should not be forced onto anyone. Actions speak so much louder than words and as a christian we need to show love and respect for every culture and belief.

This is not a unique phemonenon applicable only to the Christians.
Actually, from what I've observed most of the followers of most monotheism religions exhibit this behaviour, especially the Christians, the muslims, and the orthodox jews.
IMO, the reason being, they all subscribe to the narrow world view of "if you are not one of us, you are evil, hence you would be condemned in hell."
It's not hypocrisy, it's called closed-and-narrow-mindedness. They are, to me, people who can't think things clearly as they sees the world in the simplistic good vs evil manner. Since people always think that they themselves are good, so, anythings that they do not agree with are evil. So, they become self-righteous.

It is a shame that there are those Christians out there that condemn when we are supposed to make an example for others to see. It's that saying, " Pull the log out of your own eye before pointing out the speck in someone else's eye."

I'm a real Roman-Catholic Christian :)
A true Christian wouldn't openly oppose other religions. We believe we are the right faith (as do all faiths, that's why they practice their own faith!) but the Christian church believes in tolerance of other faiths. No one knows who goes to hell and who doesn't. We cannot limit God's justice OR forgiveness so we cannot judge that, only God has the right to so NO real christians should be openly and/or condesendingly and/or offensively opposing other religions. It's against what their faith tells them to do.

As with shadow, you summed it up very eloquently. It is a shame many people only have run ins with christians who promote the word of God like zealots.Very few people can be witnessed to in such fashion because a person defense mechanism automatically come up when confronted with overtly critical christian based view points.
Although we may believe in the same christian teachings,we must bear in mind to show patience and understanding to those who are blind to the word of God and seek to help them understand the blessings and deeds of the Christ who has died for all our sins and bought our freedom from hell with his blood,we only need ask for his forgiveness and choose to allow Him to be Lord of our lives.
Bless you for allowing others to see your point, and for others to share theirs.
