It's not illegal to drive a "right hand drive" car anywhere in the US but it IS illegal to drive a Nissan Skyline ANYWHERE in the US. A Nissan Skyline cannot be "legally" imported for "street" use anywhere in the states!

The cars in Japan don't meet the minimum safety standards required in the US like the bumper specs and the windshield specs. In addition, a car like the Nissan Skyline GT-R would not meet smog specifications. Those are the main reasons they are not imported here.
I have seen Japanese GT-Rs in California, but they were owned by a Japanese man who I think raced them. They were not street legal, if I remember correctly.
The money you would spend to import and legalize a J-spec GT-R would be so costly it would not be worth it in the end.
By the way, the normal Nissan Skyline is sold here as the Infiniti G35 and G37 Coupe. There is no GT-R here in the US.

It's illegal to drive a skyline here in the US mainly because it won't meet smog. However, any car that has a steering wheel on the right side can be legally driven here in the US provided that you drive on the right side of the road =)

Hey everybody in the USA you will have a hard time legalizing the old SKY-LINE and even harder time learning Japaneese to order parts for a car that is even obselete in Japan. Next Year the $80 GTR is comming out expect to pay $100,000 for one of those 1,600 exclusive beautys! Sign up soon it was shown this week in production trim at the Toyko auto show...

Nope, not that I know of. Just drive in the right lane. Postal service does it all the time.
