My dad is Half deaf
He has been jobless for 6 years or so now. We're really struggling to survive. Just recently he tried getting a government job as a security officer for a juvenile center. They made him go through months of testing and backround checks(almost 8 months) and then finally they ask him to take a hearing test, and he ends up failing so after all that.. They tell him he can't get a job.

Now my question to you guys is. Is there any way he can get disability checks? Or maybe be able to get a job because he is Half deaf?
I really don't know what to do.
He can hear fine enough to do his job but he can't get hired for anything. Even a minimum wage job.
Any advice would be great.

Yah my dad wears a hearing aid. Has ever since he was born.. No luck on getting jobs though..

. Would it be possible to "use" his hearing problems to get a job? Like people with mental disability do?

I'm completely deaf in my right ear myself but it's never been a problem for my employment. He should apply for some kind of disability assistance and use those employers as the reason why. Then he should look for work where his hearing loss won't be an issue. Being deaf in one ear means you can't tell where sounds are coming from. If someone yells, "Over here," you have NO IDEA where "here" is. That would be a real problem for a security guard. It also means you can't wear a headset because it covers your good ear. But for an office paper pusher or a factory production worker (don't know his qualifications), those wouldn't be issues. He should talk with a counselor from your state's employment security department and get some advice and referrals (disability programs, assistance programs, job leads) from them.

P.S. To answer your last question, yes. He shoudl invoke the Americans With Disabilities Act whenever possible. I'm really surprised the government turned him down. At the cafeteria for the Washington State Legislature in Olympia there's a blind cashier. Seriously. There's a job out there for him somewhere.

He should look into getting a hearing aid. Also, do an online search for some kind of society for the deaf. He should also check out your local employment office. It's a shame that you have to worry about this.

Get a Hearing aid, will that help?
If you dont have enough get a loan then when you get a job pay it back.
