it is soo much more than modesty!
Which is why its so diffrent for men than for women.

yes they both have to dress modestly in the Quran it says: the Quran tells men: "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do" (Quran, 24:30).
And it tells women: "And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof [e.g., face]; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments..." (24: 31).
For the part about women it means that they dont have to be modest with the men listed in the quran.Besides men are the ones attracted to women so women should be the ones covering up.(my opinion)
SOmetimes a lot of muslim women dont dress modestly eithier and sometimes men don,but what it says in the quran is the proper way to dress so if you have anymore questions about this be free to ask and i hope you understand.

Well...the only reason I guess is because the men are apparently in danger of acting like crazed sexual lunatics and go about raping the whole town, therefore they have to punish the women by making them dress like that.
Maybe the men just need better confidence in their own self control instead...

How often have you seen Muslim men walking in street in shorts. Muslim men have to cover their legs below knees. That is why almost all do not wear short except the soccer team in play ground. In Quran where God says to women keep their gaze down and cover themselves head to tow there is also a command for men to keep their gaze down when they are passing by a woman. In Muslim coutreis when ever a woman gets on the bus, always some man gets up and give her the seat and himself will stand. I don't see such men extending such courtesy to women in busses in western countries.

They too are instructed to dress modestly.
Personally I am against forcing women under the veil, but at the same time, excessive exhibitionism, as in the West, in not appreciated by me.
