Okay today my little sister came home really upset and I asked her what was wrong and she told me some girls in school was making fun of her. She told me that these girls have been destroying her classwork and taking her homework so they can copy it. She's also told me they've been shoving her to the ground and she got up and started to yell things to these girls. Then she tells the Principal and the Principal gives all of them detention even though those girls started it first and has picked on her in the past. My little sister is in the 9th grade and the girls picking on her are in the same grade as me 12th grade. I go to the same school as my sister but I don't have a full day schedule. So there picking on her when I leave school and I'm really upset about this what should I do?

I agree with others here who suggest you get your parents involved. Tell them what is happening and ask them to go as a family to see the Principal. Explain to the Principal that you are extremely disappointed with the way he has handled this situation. Chastising the victim is not appropriate and detention or the threat of detention is not the answer. Work out as a family what you think is the most appropriate action to take and have your parents suggest this to the Principal. I personally would be asking for the parents of these girls to be brought to the school for a round table discussion with the principal, the perpetrators, your sister and your parents as well to deal with the problem. And I would not only ask the Principal for this meeting I would be demanding it! Every child has the right to feel safe in their environment and these people are taking that human right away from her so something must be done to right this as soon as possible! In the meantime show your sister she is a worthwhile person by just continually showing her the support and love you obviously feel for her. Good on you sis!

I don't know what she should do. School is so different now than it was back when. Can she go to a counselor? Can she file a complaint? Do you have a police officer in your school. Take her with you, and both of you go see him or her.

When I was a kid, there were none of those things available to me. My little sister was getting picked on--get this--by a kid on crutches while waiting for the bus.

I took my sister and went to this girl's house. Her mom opened the door, and I asked to see her daughter. She asked what it was about, and her daughter appeared in the doorway. I told the daughter that if she touched my sister one more time, I was going to find her and punch her lights out. Her mother asked what was happening and we told her. We left.

The next day she apologized to my sister, and she never picked on her again. It probably had less to do with my threats than her mother's hearing her daughter's faults, but it solved the problem.

Maybe their moms should hear about this?

Take care,
TX Mom

Get mom and dad involved. Have them talk to the principal. If the principal won't listen to your sister and just gives her detention they are sure to listen to your parents or guardians. Sometimes the school staff can be jerks to the students just because they are young and don't take them seriously. They will listen to adults.

It sounds like the principal isn't doing anything about it. Your parents need to talk with the principal. If that doesn't work I would go to the board of eduation. I would get it stopped.

Getting parents involved is always a good idea. Staff can sometimes ignore the needs of minors, but they are almost forced to act if under parental influence.

tell your parents , insist that the principle deals more appropriately with it that just that , inform the parents of the girls on how this is effecting your sister , and if all else fails and these nasty little girls don,t stop picking on a younger girl , .......... then just smash the lead little tart in the mouth , sometimes bullies can only be stopped one way and that is to dish back at them what they are only to keen to dish out !
