Funny how all the WT references only say that 6,000 years of history have concluded yet stops clearly short of saying literally that 1975 is the 'end'.
Are just as deluded as the evolutionists who can not see the extensive peppering of 'ifs' and 'maybes' regarding evolution theory?

Anti-Witnesses recycle this particular "controversy" from time to time, pretending that Jehovah's Witnesses taught Armageddon would come in 1975. Is that the way Jehovah's Witnesses themselves understood the matter?

In 1975, there was a peak of 2,179,256 active Witnesses preaching from house to house. Did they quit in 1976? No.

By 2005, there were 6,613,829 actively preaching Jehovah's Witnesses, more than THREE TIMES as many!

Even in the United States, Jehovah's Witnesses have doubled their numbers since 1975. The articles of Jehovah's Witnesses which mentioned 1975 did so because it seemed to represent 6000 years since mankind's creation; no connection was made between that year and Armageddon.

Jehovah's Witnesses have long taught that not even Jesus knew the day and hour of Armageddon.

(Matthew 24:3-36) .The disciples approached [Jesus] privately, saying: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” 4 And in answer Jesus said to them: “Look out... 10 Then, also, many will be stumbled and will betray one another and will hate one another. ...13 But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. 14 And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. ...36 “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.

It is sad when the enemies of truth work to spread misinformation regarding this peaceful Christian religion.

Ped C- you are shocked by the attitude of the Witness shown regarding this question? Whoa. Shouldn't you be more shocked at the attitude of Sinister?

Quote "pull your heads out off your butts " unquote:

Qouote "go here and you will see a butt load of direct quotes" unquote:

You don't think that's inappropriate?

Sasi, honestly, i don't think Agape will answer your question. What for? She said what she had to say...but hey! i could be wrong.

Mahalo by the way with the reference you gave// Watchtower May 1, 1975; page 285 That's what you have written down as source, right?

I am not a Jehovah's Witnesses and i was hoping i'll find the exact words of Franz about 1975 as the end of the world. Unfortunately, i read nothing with the likes of it.

This is what i read under that page:

"Another speaker, F. W. Franz, the Society’s vice-president, forcefully impressed on the audience the urgency of the Christian preaching work. He stressed that, according to dependable Bible chronology, 6,000 years of human history will end this coming September according to the lunar calendar. This coincides with a time when “the human species [is] about to starve itself to death,” as well as its being faced with poisoning by pollution and destruction by nuclear weapons. Franz added: “There’s no basis for believing that mankind, faced with what it now faces, can exist for the seventh thousand-year period” under the present system of things.

Does this mean that we know exactly when God will destroy this old system and establish a new one? Franz showed that we do not, for we do not know how short was the time interval between Adam’s creation and the creation of Eve, at which point God’s rest day of seven thousand years began. (Heb. 4:3, 4) But, he pointed out, “we should not think that this year of 1975 is of no significance to us,” for the Bible proves that Jehovah is “the greatest chronologist” and “we have the anchor date, 1914, marking the end of the Gentile Times.” So, he continued, “we are filled with anticipation for the near future, for our generation.”—Matt. 24:34."

Frankly, you also failed to mention page 272 of the same Watchtower issue// "Why We Have Not Been Told “That Day and Hour”"

OH, dear, i do have one more tiny bit of information for you.

Franz said those words quoted by Agape in the year 1966 not during 1975 or years following that. He made that comment during one of the conventions held in 1966 // Baltimore, Maryland.

As any good JW knows, the end of 6,000 years of human existence is critically important to them because it preceedes Armageddon and the end of "this wicked system of things". What a lot of them don't know is that the end of 6,000 years of human existence has been falsely predicted by their organisation since 1873. Yes, 1873 - 100 years EARLIER than the 1975 date.

Check out what Pastor Russell said in Zions Watch Tower, February 1881, page 188. "Well, 1873 came, the end of 6,000 years, and yet no burning of the world." The article then went on to claim that prophecies had been found that pointed positively to 1874 as the time when Jesus was due to be present. When these promised events failed to turn up, the Watch Tower Society changed the goalposts and began to claim that the second coming (oops, sorry - you say presence) would be invisible and would happen in 1914.

As the twentieth century drew to a close without the eagerly anticipated Armageddon, the society said in 1971 "Within our twentieth century, the battle in the day of Jehovah will begin" (The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah - page 216). Guess what? It didn't happen in the twentieth century.

Now I was there in the 1970's and I am telling you that the anticipation and the excitement was almost tangible. Even though the society did not say Armageddon was going to happen in 1975, they led everybody up the garden path believing that it was imminent. Again.

By claiming 6,000 years of human existence has happened, the society is telling everyone that 'the next big thing' will be Armageddon. Only they've been saying that since 1873 - that's 135 years. How they keep you dangling! How they play upon your expectations to keep you going from door to door. And anyone who swallows the line that the light is getting ever brighter the closer we get needs their head examining. Wake up! You are being misled - seriously misled. What's even worse is that you are being prevented from entering into the new covenant. The shed blood of Christ does not cover you. I pray the Holy Spirit will open your eyes, unstop your ears and soften your hearts so that you may receive the true gospel.

How do you like this little bit of misdirection?

"Some opposers claim that JWs are flase prophets. The opponents say that dates have been set, but nothing has happened. Again, we ask, what is the motive of these critics?" (WT 3/15/86, p. 19)

Notice how, rather than respond the the claim that they are false prophets, they redirect the accusation on to the accusers by questioning their motive. lol That is so typical even! Same type of skirting we see on here everyday. The rank and file are simply following the example of the leadership.

Now, think about this:

The WT has also said, "it is not persecution for an informed person to expose a certain religion as being false". (WT 11/15/63, p.688). I would agree, except that the WT seems to think this pronouncement doesn't fit them as it should everyone else.

Want more? ". . .their prophecies to date have not come to pass; and that alone is strong evidence that they are false prophets." (Light, V. 2, p. 47) What is that saying about when you point a finger, 3 more point back at you?

Now compare that with this:

"God's faithful people on the earth emphasized the importance of the dates 1914 and 1918 and 1925. They had much to say about these dates and what would come to pass, but all they predicted did not come to pass." (Vindication, Vol. 1, p. 146)

HMMMM....so by their OWN definition, they are false prophets, when you put these two quotes together. Apparently, they once understood the real definition of "false prophet", even though they'd like to stick their heads in the sand regarding this issue today.

ok, one more: "Jehoavah. . . will put all false prophets to shame either by not fulfilling the false prediction of such self-assuming prophets or by having His own prophecies fulfilled in a way opposite to that predicted by the false prophets." (Paradise Restored, pp. 353-54)

Seems to me that Jehovah did just that. And to make sure everyone got the point, He even did so several times, because the dates they mention above are only a few examples of all the ones they actually prophesied regarding.

To Unsilenced Lamb, obviously you are an apostate. Explaining to everyone how your "ELDER" father spent all your savings on material possessions because he didn't think he'd have to pay, sounds pretty pathetic. So your whole family truly thought this wicked system was coming to an end in 1975, & all your family could think about was all the stuff you could buy before it ended? How selfish is that? I'm sure you made Jehovah very proud!!

you had better believe any "suggestion" by the Governing Body is more than a suggestion. anyone who lives their life opposite the suggested direction is considered "spritually weak."

Hence the suggestion 1975 sounded like the date was taken dead serious by the rank and file. "Stay alive until 1975!" I guess all those witnesses who didn't take it seriously weren't spiritually strong? Lucky them. Honestly, I'm shocked by the attitude of the Witness answerers above, that they'd have second guessed their Governing Body and not been gung ho followers of their strong suggestions about what the world was in for.. is this what it's like to be a Witness today? They second guess the Governing Body??!!

I'm puzzled at JW denials that their leaders ever said 1975 would be 'the end' /'Armageddon'. I've got this Watchtower magazine in front of me with the life story of a JW in good standing, Herald Toutjian - 'Always Ready for the End' it's entitled. He came from 2 generations of JWs (1901 was the start of his family's support of the Wt.Soc). Here's what Herald said about his grandparents expectations for 1914:

'As early as 1880, The Watch Tower had publicized the date as marking the end of the 'appointed times of the nations'. Would 1914 bring the end of Satan's rulership and the long-awaited Millennial Reign of Christ Jesus?' No, it did not.

JWs please notice - The Millennium was expected to start at 1914, not 70 years later! All good JWs know that Armageddon HAS to occur just before the Millennium starts. It's ABC stuff. Pinpoint the end of 6,000 years of man's existence and you also pinpoint the start of the Millennium and Armageddon MUST slot inbetween the two!

Herald also admitted regarding 1925: 'The year 1925 also held expectations for Jehovah's servants. It was thought that a cycle of 70 typical Jubilees (70x50 years) from the time Israel entered the Promised Land would end in 1925 and mark the beginning of the great antitypical Jubilee, the Millennial Reign of Christ Jesus. It did not turn out that way.'

Same point, folks! Armageddon is not mentioned but HAS to happen just before the Millennial Reign! False hope based on false calculations, again.

As his article was published in 1984, what did Herald say about 1975? Anything like what modern JWs are saying - total denial? Judge for yourselves: 'What will the 1970s bring... We were expecting that 6,000 years of man's existence would be reached in 1975. Would this date bring us to the start of Christ's Millennial Reign? That possibility intrigued us.' Precisely the same reasoning that his grandparents and parents had, continued with Herald and led to equal disappointment. The Millennium did NOT start at 1975 because Armageddon did not start.

Modern JWs are not stupid, so either they're incredibly naive, or they are horribly deceptive. Are all their public denials about never having printed 'Armageddon will come in 1975' designed to fool the public who won't make the connection between saying when 6,000 years of man's existence will end and the end of this system? I know a man who was at a JW assembly in England in summer 1966 when Circuit Servant Tommy Goulden held up the new 'Life Everlasting' book and said, 'Brothers, do you want to know the date of Armageddon? It's in this book'. Technically, it was not but for all practical purposes it certainly was! Never mind any website links; check out the sources below:

The Organization has Never said that Armageddon is going to happen In 1975. They mentioned the end of 6,000 years of Mankind's being on the Earth. They know better than to tell people that the end IS coming in that year.Jesus when relating his prophecy about the end of this system of things, stated: “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father.” (Mark 13:32) When is “the end”? That end can come either at the end of this system of things or at the individual’s own death before then. How long, then, does each one of us have? No one can calculate the day when he will die. Likewise, Jesus said to his apostles about the time for establishing God’s kingdom: “It does not belong to you to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction.” (Acts 1:7) It is impossible for us to figure out the world’s end in advance.
Satan has been threatening God's people from the time of Abel, your words are Useless.

Ha!
I can not believe you posted this!
It is easy to see by your own link, that the JW's never claimed that 1975 was anything more than the year that could be the end of 6000 years of human history!
Pathetic. Are you one of the persons who ran up your debt (or the child of) in expectation of not having to pay the bills?
It is your fault if this is true!
You have lept ahead of the printed word and were indeed 'weeded' out by your selfish motives.
