Get the Home and Student Office 2007 edition for around $125
You can buy it from Amazon.com

This version allows you to install it on up to 3 computers as long as you are not using it for commericial use

There is also OpenOffice. Its a free Office Suite in the opensource community. It is a very mature product.

Probably not for free, but there are trial versions. If you just need it to work on a project, these work pretty good. I think you can use it for 30 days and it seems to have almost all the features of the regular software. This is also nice to try out the 2007 versions.

MS Office Suite for $10 through the university. Same for Vista and lots of other apps
