8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were greatly afraid. 9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, What has thou done to us? and in what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds to me that ought not to be done. 10 And Abimelech said to Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing? 11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, surely the fear of God [is] not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. 12 And yet indeed [she is] my sister: she [is] the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. 13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, This [is] thy kindness which thou shalt show to me; At every place whither we shall come, say of me, He [is] my brother.

OK
I think Abraham and Sarah his wife (who was also his half-sister, don't fret, that was normal back then, no laws against it either) anyway they went to Egypt, if i remember correctly. Sarah was so beautiful, (not to mention how many men think that of foreign women, anywhere anyway)that Abe was afraid someone would kill him because then Sarah would be a widow and could marry one of them. So, he lied and said Sarah was his sister.Well, evidently the Pharaoh thought Sarah was beautiful and some sort of hanky panky went on, I'm not sure to what extent. It's been a while since I read this story.l
Well, someone let the cat out and everyone found out that Sarah was really Abe's wife and now they were in a great dellimna because they had committed a grave sin, coveting and hitting on another's man's wife and they were afraid of the wrath of God coming down (tho I didn't think Egyptians worshiped the Hebrew God tho).
So they demanded of Abraham why he had lied about Sarah being his sister when she was really his wife. They tried to make out like they would never have killed Abe over it( but he knew they would have). Well Abe tries to save his skin again by pointing out that he probably really didn't lie because after all Sarah was his half-sister so.....he was only telling a little white lie actually. Actually at the end it tells you that Abe was the one who had told Sarah to say he was her brother.
Any way, everything worked out all right in the end, but I have heard some Christians in my life say what's wrong with lying, after all Abraham lied? That is not at all an excuse to lie just because Abe did it.
The Bible says all liars will be thrown in to the lake of fire so think about this story the next time you are tempted to tell a little white lie.

Trying reading the New International Version or New King James Version of the bible. Their easier to read. Anyway, in these verses, King Abimelech woke up after having a dream about God rebuking him for taking a married woman for himself. In his dream, God told Abimelech that he's as good as dead for taking Sarah who was already married.
But King Abimelech had no idea the Sarah was married to Abraham because Abraham said that they were siblings. Now, King Abimelech confronted Abraham with fear for his life, asking Abraham what has he ever done to him, the king, for Abraham to bring upon him such bad fate.

Abraham's replies was that he was afraid that King Abimelech's country does not acknowledge God, therefore, doesn't fear Him. So, in fear of his own life (Abraham's) he asked his own wife to pretend to be his sister so that the people will not kill him to have his wife (but, instead, treat him special to win his favor for his "supposedly" sister.)

Abraham was concerned that due to the beauty of his wife Sarah, then when he went into a strange area someone might kill him in order to take her. So since Sarah was a step sister to Abraham (related by marriage but not by blood), he ask her to tell people she was his sister (true) but no mention that she was also his wife. Then, rather then kill him, people would instead be nice to him in the hope of getting his permission to marry her.

A king by the name of Abimelech saw her, and ordered her brought to his harem. But before he could touch her, God revealed in a dream that Sarah was Abraham's wife. So after scolding Abraham for deceiving him, the king released her and had them escorted from town.

1. Abe lied(lawed) and it got him inducted in hall of shame.
2. God hath provided some better thing for us than shame.
3. When seeing we also are compassed about... end "run".

Pst: Patience isn't doing a grace walk in Hebrews 12-->13,
and the exhortation therein is to "run" the race with Patience;
Do end "run" of human "race" along with P, is "run"-ing unto:

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ WITH YOU ALL. AMEN.
