Well they closed the program I work in and my hours are 12 to 8 and my sitter already gives me a hard time because she puts her kids to sleep around 8 and it excites them when we leave. They offered me another position in another program from 4 to 12 but that won't work because my sitter won't go for me picking him up that late at all. I also go to school on the internet at night. I could do it earlier but it is better at night while my son is sleeping. He is 5 and he needs watching constantly when he is awake. But I wonder considering that this program closed would I be able to file for unemployment while I search for a new job? I am a single mom barely making ends meet. I know I won't be out of work for long because I will make a full time job of looking for one, but I know how the job market is and it may be a few weeks.

Many of us think they offered us that shift so we would quit rather than having to fire us. It is shady but what can you do?

You might be denied unemployment because the employer offered you a different shift, whether or not you find that shift convenient for yourself. Is it possible that you could find different babysitting accommodations which would allow you to continue working ?

In one instance you say that the program closed and in the next, you say you were offered different hours. If these hours would have kept you working, then you will most probably be denied unemployment. Have you filed for any type of help with the welfare system? Sometimes you have to have a little help. I hope things go well for you and your son.
