ok, i have had strep for 2 months now. everytime i take all my antibiotics like a good little girl, and a day or 2 later i start getting sick again, and i change my toothbrush and wash everything i own, i still get sick. im starting my fourth prescription. its not strep A, its a different strain. ive done different antbiotics. Im sick of being sick. Is there something else I'm missing? Anything else that can be done other than antibiotics? Ive never reacted well to strep, but this is just getting silly now. the first time i got it i was delerious with fever and vomiting blood, and ive gotten progressivly less sick, and now its just a sore throat, but really, this is just getting silly. I want to be healthy again.

At this time, I suggest finding a new doctor, if you have been going to the same doctor all this while. You might want to get a referral to an "infectious disease specialist." You want to tell the doctor (your current doctor or a new one you might choose in the future) that you want this infection treated aggressively at this point, since you've had it so long.

Well, I'd suggest that you ask your doctor for a throat/tonsils culture ((a smear to detect exactly what type of bacteria you have)) and it will tell ya to what antibiotics it is Susceptible or Resistant. There are some other conditions that can resemble strep...like...Mononucleosis....which is a virus and DOES NOT respond to antibiotics because it is a virus, and usually it takes from 4 to 6 weeks to resolve ((I know...just getting over it myself)).

Take care!

I'd guess you are harbouring a reservoir of infection somewhere. That is to say a place where the antibiotic you are taking can't effectively get to. Most of the time this is a peritonsillar abscess. If so, the doctor needs to drain it and get you on a longer course of antibiotic. You don't say what Streptococcus you have...do you know the name? Also, what antibiotic have you been taking?

Maybe your tonsils need to be taken out.I had my tonsils taken out when I was 18.Have your doctor check that out.

open this to your doctor... strep infection is not like any other infection... if they stay too long, kidney dysfunctions or rheumatic heart disease will develop... please see your doctor soon... Good luck....
