"Unprecedented?" Certainly not. Persecution of Christians by Rome, of Muslims (and BY Muslims) during the inquisition, of protestants by Catholics, of Catholics by Protestants, of pagans (or perceived pagans) by Christians, of Jews by Nazism, and of ALL faith by Communism causes today's terror and violence to pale in comparison to world history.

And I forgot to mention pagan cultures by Jews.

No, the correct term for what is the cause of unprecedented terror and violence is ideology.
Religion in and of itself causes nothing. But just as democracy veiled in ideology stirs up contentions among man, so does any belief used as ideology.

Religion has always caused violence and terror for those who don't attend the right church/mosque/temple. The difference now is that instantaneous mass communication makes it difficult to hide all the wrongs committed in the name of so-called gods.

Unprecedented? Of course not. Whatever evil you are capable of imagining has alread been inflicted somewhere in the past. I mean...look at the frigging children's crusade, fer chrissakes! But religion, in general, is now contributing more misery to the world than it has since the enlightenment.

religion has always caused terror and violence that's all they ever do... today it's the insidious nature of christianity and catholism that is the worse... be nice to your face back stab the minute you turn around... weak whiners all the way through history... Christians are nothing more than the masses covering up the devil's tracts and agenda...

Eh? well i guess it would all depend on how you looked at it.. war is in many ways interpreted through the bible or even just a duty of first reaction..the only reason for so much terror and torment is because we all live in envy of one another we need to live as brothers and sisters not as im better then you are..

Most certainly. And it is not only in modern times, history has also shown us the negative effects of religion has onto society.
If society does not start to break the shackles of religion it could cause more problems in the future for society.
