I'm a 21yr old stay at home mom. I'm thinking about going to cosmotology school, but I'm not sure where I need to start the process with the whole grants, etc. What do I need to do other than find a school, I've done that much.

The school should have a financial aid office. Go there first. Be very careful borrowing money. Check out the interest rates and repayment requirements before you sign anything. Go to a state sponsored school if at all possible--they usually have better programs.

I went to cosmotology school and i applied for loans right at the school. Go to the school and ask how you can get financial aid. They will help you with financial assistance because they want you to go to their school. Trust me.

Fill out a FAFSA form. The school should have the form, but you can also find it online at http://www.fafsa.gov
I recommend doing it on paper and mailing it in the first time, because the instructions are clearer. After that your filled out form will appear online (you'll receive a password) and you just make changes on it for the next year. Fill it out in January to receive benefits for the fall (September) semester.
Not sure about semesters for cosmetology school, though.

The first thing that you should do is set a budget and stick to it. You have a son/daughter that depends on you financially, you take care of him/her first, have funds for emergencies, food, clothing, etc....
Don't forget about student loans which are tax deductible and have lower interest than other loans.

Got a job, become a business man for a company. You can get good money and go to school at the same time.

www.fafsa.gov is the free application for federal student aid. This is the application for both grants and student loans.

Most schools have financial aide counselors that can help you with this, if not ask them where you might start.
