So im getting a new electric guitar for Christmas and im not sure to get a fender or a gibson. i like acoustic sounds but i still love to rock and roll when im in the mood. I love guitars that have and edge but are still classy. If you could tell what guitar to get also that would be amazing!

Fenders and Gibsons are both top-notch guitars, but only you can make the distinction on sound, feel, and playability that you prefer. Go to a reputable music store and play several of both brands, playing close attention to fretboard ease and sound through the same amplifier.

Both brands have excellent construction. Among solid-bodies, the Gibsons tend to have necks and string spacings similar to those of acoustics; if I needed a double-humbucker for rhythm tracks using heavyish strings (e.g. stainlesswound .012's), I would get a Les Paul Studio model (e.g. P/N LPSUANCH1). The Fenders have a wider string spacing that Leo Fender borrowed from the Mariachi guitar builders; the Stratocaster design is now available with triple single-coil, dual single plus humbucker, and double-humbucker variants from both Mexico and the U.S., with some premium U.S.-built models even packing the Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo.

If you expect to be using the Roland VG-88 or VG-99 or GR-20, Fender already supports it with one American standard model: the three-single-coil VG Stratocaster (P/NN 011 7500 700 Three-Color Sunburst and 011 7500 706 Black, MSRP $2428.56).

Go to a music store and try em both out before you decide. In my opinion a Gibson Les Paul is the way to go, but until you play them both you wont know which is best for you!
