I was driving to work the other day. Every day, I have to drive past this Baptist Church to get to there. The sign that was next to the church read, "Atheists, let us not fight, let us unite for a better world." Normally, I would not be caught near a church since I am an atheist, and I fear that Christians would rip my head off for it, but I decided to go to see what this was about. It was like a presentation about how science does not have to conflict with their beliefs. They had slides that showed that just because you are Christian does not mean that you have to deny the big bang theory or the theory of evolution, and how you do not have to deny God if you believe those theories. Just curious what you people think of this churches actions.

I think it is no different then when the Catholic Church engulfed all the pagan holidays and made them their own. They are just trying to make it look appealing to us Atheists.

It seems like one of those (sadly) rare occasions where some Christians are acting in a "Christ-like" manner! Despite what most "creationists" would have people think, there is nothing in the bible that requires its followers to abandon their common sense at the door!

The Bible is a book of fables that was created by men to give moral & social guidance to the uneducated. Jesus, if he ever was an actual person, would surely have been horrified that there are people who want to use it as a tool to supress common sense and to deny the obvious nature of the universe around us.

Any Christian who believes in a God smart enough to make the world, but who then insists He is too dumb to have thought of evolution as a mechanism to do it is going to have some explaining to do if there actually is a God!

Unfortunately they have no credibility to me. If they were genuinely wanting to let their followers know about science that would be a good thing, however according to you, they are using it merely to draw in Atheists as if somehow we are going throw out our reason to fall for a few posters???

That sounds good to me. I don't think all those conflict with each other in all people. I am a scientist and I don't believe in god, but that doesn't mean everybody has to be like me.

That's peculiar. I'd say it's a step, but it can backfire in the churches' face. I already respect others' beliefs, but sorry, I'm not interested.

Sounds like one of those progressive thinking kind of churches. Good for them. Though I'd be annoyed at any suggestion that I should join their view.

Was that a Southern Baptist Church? If it was, I'm sure they are all going to hell for that. (Sarcasm very present here)

That's a bunch of bulIshit. They are just trying to regain religious control by copying and pasting scientific findings into their stupid religion to make it seem more appealing to newer generations, just ignore them, you should know better.

really cool, once a month i have two (not always the same two) jehovahs witnesses come to my house for an argument about religion and sometimes i visit their kingdom hall. often we get very passionate but afterwards we get on- some of them will even come to the pub with me (non alcoholic for them of course). it keeps us all on our toes and is fun

IT'S A TRAP!!!!!!
Anarchists and Communists (odd combination) tried working together and the communists turned on the anarchists.
such two opposite beliefs can not work together as they will turn on each other.
