I know you are worried, and most people on this site are just going to tell you not to worry, me included. Everyone is just going to give you their opinions, which may or may not reassure you. In my opinion, that is how I would want to go: peacefully in my sleep. However, it sounds like you are more worried about the 'going' part. Why is it that you are afraid you won't wake up? Do you think you are going to die in your sleep for some reason? Do you have a reason to believe that? Are you having serious health problems that would lead you to believe that you don't have long to live? Or did someone you know recently pass away? Or is this fear unrelated to things that are going on in your life right now? I think, actually, in ANY, of those cases, you might benefit from talking to someone about your fears, but especially if you don't have a "logical" reason for your fears. (I use that in quotes, because a lot of people's fears sometimes seem illogical, until we start to really explore them more. We just don't know right away where they come from.) This may involve talking to a trusted family member or friend, or perhaps professional counseling. It sounds like it is affecting your life by interrupting your sleep. And if you DO have health problems where you think you may be passing on soon, then you will need help in dealing with your fears and coming to terms with that--counseling might help you to come to acceptance with whatever life brings you (whether that be healing or ultimately death--since it happens to all of us eventually). I don't say this to bring you down; I say it to encourage you. I want you to figure out what the problem is so that you can get past it. And I want you to get a good night's sleep. Because I LOVE sleeping! It feels good when you can get rested; you may actually begin to feel calmer & more relaxed. I wish you luck.

When I have the fireplace burning at night to save heating costs I am frightened to sleep. I have to leave a light on and the doors open to the living room. If I smell smoke I get up right away. I will probably die this way in a fire.

Hi Debbs
You must be feeling so scared.
I think the only way around this is to perhaps get one of your same sex friends to sleep with you to reassure you. I really need to talk to you to discover where these fears are coming from.
You could ask your doctor for a 1 week supply (7 doses) of a sleeping tablet like Zopiclone 7.5mg or Temazepam 10mg at bed time to help.
Contact me if you think I can help further.

How far can you go? Normally your ambitions need to be kept in check rather than encouraged. You tend to assume that anything is possible just as long as you try hard enough. Yet for some reason now, you lack your usual confidence. Either you doubt yourself or you doubt your circumstances. One way or another, you fear failure - and, thus, you feel inclined to contemplate a compromise. Do you really need to sell yourself so short? Absolutely not. Soon you will see why.

I've had those feelings before. It is frusterating. Fortunatley it's not every nite, but it usually comes with physical symptoms.
shakiness, and other stuff. It is frusterating, and it is a real feeling. I find prayer helps sometimes. Ask god to watch over you.
I dont know what else to say, Perhaps there are some things your worried about that are keeping you up. Sometimes when i've had a stressful day that doesn't help.
good luck.

So there's an anxiety around the idea of death for you. Well, you know you need to sleep, right? Maybe you could try doing things to distract you before bedtime so you don't stress so much like watching tv or reading. But if your mind wanders and it's hard to control your thoughts, you could try seeing someone who can help you deal with your fear.
