was it so scandalous to some people to think that Jesus might have had children?

Is it just because it wasn't mentioned in the bible? Or is there some sex-phobia going on?

Your opinion, please?

Ok... I know it was fiction. That's not what I'm asking. I'm saying what's so wrong about the thought that Jesus and Mary were married and had children? Why is that a sin?

Midge, darlin; get a grip.

Because to people he is a son of god and all of sudden he gets really humanized and even trivialized. Also religious fanatics tend to have very un-bendable minds so they reject any other interpretations of their believes with all of the power of their whimsy, sad souls.

I don't think the book is factual though. Those poor idiots of course cannot tell the difference.

Marrying and having children is certainly not a sin. However, Jesus did not marry, and he did not have children. Given the penury and constant danger Jesus and the disciples faced, he recommended becoming a "eunuch for the kingdom."

Matthew 19:12: For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."

The Da Vinci Code argued that Christianity is a great conspiracy to falsify the "feminist" message of Jesus, cover-up his love affair (not marriage) with Mary Magdalene, and read Mary out of the Christian movement. All of which is completely false and tendentious nonsense.

Defending the Church and the truth about Jesus is not a phobia, i.e., an irrational fear. It is simple honesty.

Cheers,
Bruce

I know, my family almost lost it when it came out that Jesus was married. A question about what is a good male Jew by law. It is said that a male most be married and have children to teach, children and in the Synagogue. If you were single or have not fathered children you did not teach, and Jesus taught. Now a far as the DaVinci Code it was a joke and if you believed it, you will believe anything. Entertaining movie as far as fiction goes but not reality.

The reason why so many people like Midge get offended by the DaVinci Code is because it throws the concept of jesus out the window. They are incapable of understanding that jesus was a man, a mortal man, and therefore had the same desires as every man does.

I personally wouldn't be offended by the idea or the actual fact that Jesus was married at one time and had a family of his own. I think it's entirely possible that it could've been a part of his history. I think what makes it scandalous is that it was kept quiet.

I have a question for others who are answering.... WHY would it have been a "sin" for Jesus to have married and had children? Doing either one isn't a sin as far as I know.... Not in our time or Jesus'.

I don't think it's scandalous that Jesus might have had children. However, we'll never know for sure since so many of the books that could have told us were purposely left out of the Bible. I'm sure everyone will tell me they were left out for a good reason, but who knows if they were left out to push someones agenda?

Christianity has a very deep-rooted fear of sex. Sex is dirty and dangerous and needs to be controlled (i.e. within the bounds of marriage). Sex is the root of original sin.

Christianity accepts that Jesus was 100% pure. That meant he could not have participated in something as dirty as sex....nor could he be conceived by sex (hence the virgin birth) or even be conceived by someone conceived by sex (hence Mary's own immaculate conception). He is the one person utterly untouched by any form of sin or shame.

Also, from a historian's point of view, there is absolutely nothing that says he did have children, so its historically irresponsible to invent a wife or children (although it's not historically irresponsible to consider the possibility) for him.

I do not think it's wrong to perhaps think that there may be some truth to the stories. I mean, how can we truly know the history when our religion is ruled by men in power at the Vatican?? I am not saying it is true, but can there be a possibility?
