While I do agree with many of your responders, the facts are that rabbits & birds are prey animals & it is instinct that they run from what presents a danger to them. However they can "overcome" the fear if your around that animal or bird with consistant kindness. I have often gotten wild birds, rabbits, squirrels and raccoons to come & eat right out of my hand. Hope that helps?

It's very hard for rabbits and birds to tell that people don't mean any harm. Rabbits and most birds are prey animals, so they survive by running away from animals that are bigger than them. Better to be safe than sorry when you're low on the food chain.

The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands.

Mother Nature provided them with natural survival instincts, including the fear of animals that are bigger and stronger that are an unknown quantity in terms of safety

Well that's what millions of years of evolution does to some animals... The ones that weren't affraid of bigger animals died, and so did their genes. The ones that ran away, reproduced & reproduced & reproduced...

Because not everybody loves them and I think they have seen enough of their families get ran over and shot that they know they have to take caution. they are cute though.

animals avoid us because we are big to them. also maybe because they remember stuff like people shooting them or chasing them. i mean what would you do if you were being chased by a huge giant? run. they are scared of us when they see us.

Because they consider us prey animals and it has been ingrained in their heads to avoid prey animals.
