I looked everywhere too. :(
Pet finder doesn't recognize the name of your town.
I recommend that you put a wanted add on here. http://halifax.craigslist.org/pet/ and put Pictou County in the location box on the right. Craig's List only has Halifax on their list of towns in Nova Scotia, but people from other areas in Nova Scotia place an add there because other people from Nova Scotia read it (besides people from Halifax). Thats what happens when Craig's List doesn't include American cites as well. People always post their adds in the nearest town. :)
Good Luck!!! I hope someone contacts you.

If size is a concern, I recommend adopting a dog over 6 months old, so that you will have a general idea of how big the dog will be as an adult. Adult dogs are just as great as a puppy and don't require as much work. And adopted adult dogs are very appreciate of a good home, a warm bed, a loving companion and food in their bellies. Go to Petfinder.com and put in your zip code, it'll give you a list of shelters and rescue groups that I'm sure you don't even know exist. Some are free, and others have adoption fees which range, usually between $75.00 and $250.00. Good luck.

You don't need a puppy. Remember puppies grow up. Go save a dog from the pound or SPCA and give him/her a second chance.

Maybe if you post what town/state you are in, you might get more responses because in my city there are many independent rescue orgs. as well as shelters that have both pups and adult dogs that are well under 300 dollars.
GL on finding the dog of your dreams!

Start by looking at animal rescues, they have dogs of all sizes and usually they charge about $200, and you will be helping a dog in need!

depending on what type of small dog you are looking for, you could contact a rescue of the particular breed. for instance if you are looking for a pug, you could contact a pug rescue. there are lots of breed specific rescues. try that and also the shelters. good luck.

Try looking in the major newspaper for your state. I sure you can find lots in there. Here is a link to akc, you can read about the different breeds and how big the get.

Your local shelter may not have any puppies right now, but, they will, you just have to be patient. Please don't give up.
