My male Mastiif has 2 small callouses on his left hip where he likes to lay,and since I show him i'm trying to get rid of them, hoping that a judge won't think poorly of him,and does anyone know if this is something he might be penalized for in the show ring?

Those are actually called hot spots. Dab a little neosporin on there a few times a day, they should go away. I'm not sure about the judging part, because I'm not really into all that. I'm too busy rescuing.

Use Bag Balm or even Vaseline.Rub it into the callous several times a day,and try to get the dog to lay on a softer surface.Sometimes, these callouses can get infected, and there will be an abscess underneath,so the Neosporin isn't a bad idea.

Your first answer is from a TWIT!
You can try a skin lotion...coco butter/lanolin based..but the most important step is PREVENTION!!! Give it some padding! A foam bed.

& no,judges aren't stupid,they KNOW dogs & KNOW a giant breed will have callouses.

Those are not hot spots, those are pressure calouses. Moisturizer and a good padded area to lay will get rid of them, but it will take time.

My german shepherd had them on her legs and I used vitiam E on them. I would buy the vitiam e capsuls, poke a hole in it and extract the liquid. I'd then rub the liquid on the spot and they cleared up.
