It's definitely okay to ask a former employer to rehire you after leaving the job; however, the circumstances should be that you left on your own, on good terms, and you were an employee who had a good record (i.e., time and attendance, reviews, relationship with management and coworkers).
If you were fired and/or had a horrible track record, you may not want to embarass yourself or put anyone else in an uncomfortable position of telling you no.
Best of Luck to you.

You're not telling us how or when you became a former employee. Did you leave under good terms? Did you get good reviews while there? If so, asking a former employer for work again is no problem at all. Be prepared to explain why you are coming back (something other than, "Well, I ran out of money and got bored of watching TV all day...") and then be very direct.

i have done it. Make sure you had a good employee record and showed up for work ontime. If not, try letting the employer know that your available and are already trained so that you can start asap. also let them know that you have mended your bad ways. Do not call the employer. show up looking neat and clean and eager to work. also dont take a low pay too eagerly. if they offer you a lower pay...comprimise because after you start to work again they will see how good you are and give you that money in a raise. Don't take the low pay. Ask for something higher than they offer and close to what you made when you left.
