Ive been reading up on this and wanted to get some more opinions before I approached my shirt with it. Im active air force, have been in for about a year now, recently my mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. My parents are divorced. My step father is Air Force reserve, air crew. He recently volunteered for a year assignment to relieve troops on the ground who have been there for over a year. Anyways, I was wondering if my mom being sick is considered grounds for a hadship so I can go home and take care of her.

I think you need to do some reading on MS and find out how far along your mother is since this is a very nasty disease that my wife and I are currently helping her sister through. She no longer can feed, dress, or bath herself and for her it is a fatal prognosis that was diagnosed four years ago. Based on your mothers case it could be grounds for you to obtain a hardship discharge and of course that information about your mother along with you contacting your first sergeant and the Red Cross are the steps that you would take to initiate that. It also could be grounds for your step father to be sent home from his deployment. As for going Palace Chase and into the Air Force Reserves you want to look at that carefully also since that carries with it an element of risk for deployment as well.

Good luck, but if everything is an emergency , then who would be left to do the job!
While in your eyes it may be a reason for going reserve from active, you'd have a hard time convincing the Air Force.
Is this REALLY the case or are you using it as an excuse to get out of active duty?

It might be grounds for a hardship discharge. Transferring to reserve status under Palace Chase, however, subjects you to the possibility of recall.
