why do muslims keep lying about the status of women in Islam?

just look at Saudie Arabia and afghanistan, Iran and nearly every other islamic country treat their women like animals....only when muslims move to the superior culture of the western world do they truly have freedom

Yes in many countries women do not have the right to vote, to drive etc..

There are cultures where a man is allowed to have more than one wife, but not the woman.

These countries and cultures simply practise gender bias and get offended when pointed out.

The point is not whether a man has to take the permission of the first wife to take a second wife. The point is does the woman have any chance to take the permission of her first husband to take a second one? I am emphasising on the fact that the laws should be equal for men and women.

I think Iran is pretty liberal and I have no problems with that. Afghanistan was too at one time, till the CIA started supplying arms to the Mujahideens and the terrorists.

Afghanistan would have been a more civilized country had the Soviets stayed on.

the problem with u western guys is that u want woman to come out in public and display their bodies and make u lust for them...if this thing is missing in a religion, u say that women are subjugated in it....Islam doesnt allow that women should appear in public in such a way so as to make a man lust for her...Islam has protected women and that is why the lowest cases of rape are reported in Saudi Arabia where Islamic rules and laws are implemented and strictly followed...Statistics show that the highest rape cases are reported in USA (which is a part of western world and where there is freedom for women according to u)......if u think that women should be used as a public property or in other words,used for satisfying sex) then okay,u should say Islam subjugates woman.....but this shows that u want women to becum animals bcoz an animal has got only two things to do in its life, search for food and satisfy his sex,and thats what u r doing........we muslims dont want this happen to our muslim women.....

You apparently don't know the difference between culture and religion. Sadly, many people in the countries you mentioned let cultural practices override their religion. I am an American who has CHOSEN to be Muslim and I have lived in a Muslim country. I was never treated badly.

Muslim women are Surgeons, GP's, journalists, Lawyers, Dentists, Scientists, Pharmasists, Solicitors, teachers, Lectures etc etc etc i think , im not sure dont hold me to it but im pretty certain you NEED an education to be any of those? Sorry but women in Islamic countries are all the professions i listed. My husband is Algerian and went to univercity in Algers there where thousands of women there getting an education. When he went on to be a journalist in Algeria there where women journalist working right along side with him. However did they do it without western intervention?When a woman goes to the Doctors in a muslim country she see's a woman doctor, do you see where this is going. They are not westerners and have educations so dont give me all that you only have these oppertunities because your in the west rubbish.
I am Scottish born and bread and i love my country and am very patriotic I never said i had a problem with the west you are talking like no one ever did or had anything without the west to do it for them. The issues you raise are not religious issues. The Qu'ran is no more misogynistic than the Bible, it is simply out-dated. Some extremist Islamic groups have mis-interpreted the Qu'ran, and have enforced their brand of Islam upon the political regimes in question. However, the vast majority of Muslims do not interpret the Qu'ran in anything like such an extreme way, just as you (I hope) don't interpret the Bible in the way that some Christian fundamentalists have done. No one denies that the plight of women in some of the Middle East is terrible, but you must not confuse the extremism in the Middle East with mainline Islam, unless you want to be tarred with the 'ignorant' brush.

I keep wishing that for once, half of the people on this board who preach the same nonsense would do the tiniest bit of research to find out what Islam really is about. Instead it seems like people are more drawn to misconceptions, dirty laundry and cat-fights and are more interested in whatever bad things some doorknob has to say than what is actually fact. And we wonder why so many people here in the states know everything about Britney, Paris and Lindsay and haven't a clue who the VP is or where to find Iraq on the map.

I absolutely don't agree with the treatment of women in some of these societies. When you beat, rape, defile, justify killing or making a woman inferior to you, you have just done it to your mother and your sister. Women are our equals if not better because without them WE WOULD NOT BE!!! Maybe the men in these societies should start giving birth to themselves

while in fact religion Islam gives full protection to its female believers.
