I bred my Vizsla and she gave birth to 10 pups. I read every book published practically and feel comfortable answering this question so here goes. How many days has she been pregnant? 62-64 days is the average...my babies came exactly on the 62nd day. If she is having complications I would always recommend a veterinarian. There are also low cost clinics to help as well. Its a bit different than humans in regards to positioning its more based on temperature. If it drops to aaround 99 then its coming. Try to get a thermometer and place it in her rear and hold for about 1 minute MAX. SO now we have 2 factors: days and temperature. Ok so now you need to watch her feeding habits. She will not want to eat...she will literally go from the cookie monster to anorexia ( sorry for the bad analogy). Is she panting? Has her water sac broken ( has she gone peepee for a really long time). Thats what my girl did and then poof came out the babies. Hope this helps and congratulations...your a grandmommy!!!

I had a small pug once, and just watch her very closely for the next eight hours. My dog's labor lasted almost that long, and she just started abruptly after her water broke, so make sure she has a dry place that can get dirty without too much damage. It can take a long time, so you don't have to be with her the entire time, but just keep a close eye if you can. Best of luck, and once the water breaks, the pups should be ready to come out!

i dont know if this will help my lab had pups once (my first time too) she was acting weird and laying in an empty closet (that has no door) Breathing heavily, i could see lumps moving on her belly if i looked closely ( It was the pups!) As soon as her human father got home she just popped. It was an all morning and afternoon affair her acting weird and at 3 o clock pm when he came home she was ready. I think she waited for him for security. but to have all 10 pups she wasn't done til between 8-9pm

Well it is always recommended to take them to the vet to get an ultrasound to see where the babies are. That way you will know for sure if any are breech. Other than that I know of no way to tell for sure. If she is nesting then the pups will be coming soon. I would have her checked out because the babies could have problems you don't even know about. Good Luck.

put her in a card board box with a blanket you will know when it's time because she will start nesting and moving the blanket to a comfy position and bearing down also her uhem...woohoo will be large and puffy looking. if this is her first litter you will need to help her by opening the bag, hold the pup on it's side with it's body slanted and rubbing it with a towel until it lets out a good cry(to clear the lungs) cutting the umbilical cords about and inch from the belly and tieing them off with dental floss about a centimeter from the belly. good luck!

Is she pushing yet? Lay your hand on her tummy lightly and just leave it there. See if she is having contractions. That is when her tummy suddenly gets hard for a few seconds at regular intervals. Was she x-rayed by a vet? Is that how you know she is having 8 puppies? If her puppy is stuck, she would be pushing, so assume it isn't. If she isn't pushing and not panting, you just have to wait.

It takes several hours from start of labor to last puppy.

If she's showing signs of labor and no puppies have been born in 4 hours, you might want to take her to the vet. Chihuahua have difficulty giving birth because of their small pelvises.

Each birth is different - there's no set time for any of that. If you're afraid your dog may be in trouble, you need to get her to the vet. What are her symptoms? What's her temperature? How is she acting?
