A few years ago, my cat had a bad reaction to the Advantage flea treatment. Since then, I have never used flea treatment on her nor have I my other cats. I do not want to risk putting any chemicals on my cats. What should I do about fleas? I do not want to use flea collars because I have heard that the chemicals on them can irritate a cat's neck. Are there any effective, natural products that I can give to my cats that will prevent fleas? I don't want them to suffer with fleas; however, I'd rather my cats have fleas than risk another bad reaction to Advantage or any other treatment.

Are u really sure the reaction was from the Advantage?
I've heard that garlic powder mixed in a cats' wet food would help since it gives off a odor on the skin that fleas don't like.

You can try flea wipes for kittens. I'm sure it has some chemicals but they'd be a lot less strong than some thing like Advantage.

Check with your vet. Once you get the fleas off her don't let her get in a situation where she'll pick up fleas again.
Good luck

Well basically, Frontline, Advantage, Revolution and Advocate are the only treatments that work. Oh, and Capstar pills. They're all different chemicals, so just try a different one. Frontline is particularly safe because it stays on the skin of the animal.

I'm sure you're going to try whatever 'remedies' people suggest on here, but I just wanted you to know in advance that they aren't going to work. Fleas are tough. They're in a class of their own really; even exterminators don't seem to realise that. You can't just use whatever stuff works on other insects.

Try brushing your cat with a flea comb every day and spray your cat with the searchants(I don't know how to spell it.) flea spray once a week.
