Like drinking milk. Which is grosser, drinking breast milk from a cow or a human? I love cheese, but the thought of drinking a big glass of milk makes me hurl. It's like a big glass of puss or something. Is it just me?

What other examples can you come up with?

Pragmatic alien,
That's one I tell the students here all the time! What could be more suggestive and inappropriate than handing your date bundle of severed genitalia?

How about going to enormous lengths to rid ourselves of our musky scent, only to put the musky scent of another animal on us.

Maybe not on the same lines, but nontheless i find if funny we put perfumes and colognes on our bodies.

How about accepting people talking about grossing out right after I've just had dinner? LOL

But seriously, the one thing that really depresses me is the extent to which we have come to accept really disgusting language and behavior among young people. I know that makes me sound old, but when really little kids use the F word constantly, or when boys walk around with their pants falling down, or girls of 10 or 11, sometimes even younger, wearing clothes that make them look like they are for rent. Also telling gross-out stories on the bus where anyone can hear, getting off on ultra-violent movies and video games . . . I will gross myself out if I continue, but you get the idea. Is this civilized?

Re milk drinking, most humans do not have a gene for lactose tolerance (such as virtually all Asians). Only in cultures that developed dairy herding did the gene for lactose tolerance evolve. So if you're grossed out about drinking milk you probably don't have the gene for lactose tolerance.

Ripping the flesh from an animal and cooking it sounds gross. Why is it we eat cows but not horses? That is pretty much because of tradition and familiarity.

I forget which comedian said basically:
"Who was the first person to say, "Hey, you know that white $*** coming out of that cow's t***? I'm gonna drink it! And see that thing coming out of that chicken's @$$? I'm gonna eat that! Then I'll put it together and call it 'breakfast'."

Hot dogs. In science class once we dissected an animal heart, I swear one part of it looked exactly like a hot dog.

Most of our "truths" are culturally induced. It doesn't necessarily make them THE truth---just A truth.
