And I have a few questions... that would probably be suited for the person that I have the interview with, but I figured that I would ask them here anyway.

1) What is the starting pay usually? (And don't say just minimum wage please, it could be anything since I've heard different things)

2) Are they flexible with hours? (This is very important to me. I can work every day if I have to, but I want it like 9-5 or 8-5 because I have college classes in the evening)

Can anyone answer? I'd really apperciate it. But I will bring these up with the interviewer, and hope for the best. I just want to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks.

Weekends won't be a problem for me, and I can work Saturday night-- that's not a problem either.

Its just Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights that I can't work.

Thanks for the two replies so far. :)

My wife works at a Wal-Mart supercenter. Keep in mind that practices probably vary across the company, but at this store, the starting pay was around $7.50 an hour. They do not give full-time hours to avoid paying benefits. 34 hours is considered full time, for a four week period or longer. Several times she worked 34+ for three consecutive weeks and the next week, got less than 30. They keep very close watch.

At this store, you are asked to give the days and hours you are available. Weekends are expected, but if you say you won't work Sundays, they don't schedule you for Sunday (expect to work every Saturday night, though).

Day hours are choice hours and go to the senior people first, so if you can't work evenings. expect to only get 4-5 hour shifts during the daytime, at first.

Run as far away as you can!!! just kidding... sort of. Seriously, though I've worked at Walmart and it was the 2nd worst job I've ever had. Hopefully they've changed since I was there. My experience with pay was minimum wage, I know that's not the answer you want, but that's what I started at. I started in the jewelry dept. which wasn't so bad. It was when I became a cashier that I really started to hate the job. I would get closing shifts, then an opening shift back to back. A lot of people got those kinds of shifts and complaining did nothing. I hope for your sake that they treat thier employees differently now.

If you tell them at your interview your available hours, it shouldn't be a problem.

I worked at walmart very very shortly. heres the downlow:

they started me at $8.20. i only asked for eight. i personally feel whatever you ask for, you get, cuz my friend up there asked for ten and got 9.90!! So ask for fifteen. with a straight face. im serious.

They are flexible with SOME peoples scheduels. it depends what section you get put in...

you will see all sorts of people there who are taking unauthorized breaks and you will think, "oh i can too!" but there are nothing but tattletales and a good percentage of perverted men working at walmart. im so serious. do what youre supposed to. otherwise soembody will tattle on you.

they will ask you questions in the interview about previous work expericnes. just be in a real talkative mood. thats all.

you get two fifteen minute breaks, and thats it! and they will come get you when your break is up if youre not out yet!!

walmart expects you to work very hard!! im not kidding. i worked as hard as they would have liked me to work one day, and i came home and my feet were burning. i fell into bed. to hell with that.

im a waitress now...i used to make 360 every two weeks at walmart...now i make about 340 every week at the olive garden im at!!
