Not really looking for a race car.Just a regular mustang.More specifically the model that was built between 1994-2004.Don't get me wrong, the saleen is hot.Just can't afford it.Also, what exactly does the pony package entail?I've heard the name thrown around a few times but never really understood what it was.

My first Mustang is a 1989 GT. I fell in love with it so I bought a second Mustang which is a 1992 LX 5.0. I loved the two of them so much I bought a 2002 GT. I havent had a problem with any of them. They are great cars, and I wouldnt steer anyone away from that car at all. My only advice would be, as others have said, get the GT if you want to get one. The V6 just inst enough motor for that car, and thus would be pretty disappointing to drive. As far as the Pony Package, all it is really is a styiling package. No performace upgrades to speak of.

Well the mustang is a special car.
First rule of a mustang dont get a v6. Not only for the power but fordsV6 engines never lasted to long for me and also anybody whoever really likes mustangs when they look at it will go aw a v6 whats this crap. Higher resale value also.
Second rule of a mustang It is a sports car it sucks gas i think like 16 miles a gallon maybe.
Third rule of a mustang its not a family car by anymeans and for some guys its a right of manhood and for girls it looks really pretty...lol anyways the 3rd rule dont buy it expecting it to be an import it wont last forever its a sports car a v8 to boot.
Fourth rule of a mustang Buying a v6 mustang automatically voids it being called a mustang or sports car anymore.
Now if you can live with that get it.( just making a few extra comments, well if money is a problem and you want something dependable i would go with one of the very many imports, they are cheap, and reliable and get good gas mileage.)
And for the guy who says he gets 27 mpg out of a mustang, what universe do you live in , without some major tweaking you could never see 27 mpg out of a mustang especially a v8.
I have owned 2 a 72 of course it is older it got 11 mpg and then i had an 86 covertable gt with fuel injection and it got about 14-16 and if you read the dealer stats on them
17 city 24 highway and what you get all highway driving? thats the v6 also
v8 is 15 city and 22 highway.
going on a trip and measuring your gas mileage isnt accurate because most of us do a lot of city driving.

Wife and I had a 01 GT convert, premium. We never had any problems with it, other than the AC unit and had to have the compressor replaced. the one we had, had all the options
Loved the car, but we traded it in on a Sable because my wife was watching the grandkids and the safety seats that are required didn't fit well into the small back seats.
It is a sports car, and it would run. Really liked that car. Sorry we had to sell it, but what are you going to do?
Get the GT with the V-8. It will cost you more on insurance, but it will be worth more when you go to sell it too.
good luck.

Out of all the cars I've ever owned, by far the Mustang GT is the most fun to drive. It's got good power, the convertible top works great and gas mileage isn't as terrible as everyone would have you believe. (I'm getting just over 27mpg on premium... I try to keep my foot out of it.) My car has 95K miles on it and I've yet to have a problem. If you're looking to buy one, be careful. Many people tend to not take care of theirs- if it's leaking oil or its rear tires are 'mysteriously' worn, or things of that nature, then chances are the previous owner drove it like they stole it. If you find a good one, the smile doesn't leave your face.

My uncle has driven mustangs only for 45 years and he would never consider a different car. As for the pony package it is nothing but a sticker on the side of the car.

A three season sports car. Horrible in winter if you have snow/ice. However if you live in a sunshine state it could be a year round car. I am assuming your asking about a GT. If your asking about a V-6 then that would be a three season piece of crap.
Mustangs make great drag cars if you are planning on a build but I'm guessing daily driver.

My experience at the drag strip is; the guy next to me bragging about his 11 second 500hp Mustang (w/drag slicks).... couldn't beat my car that could only do mid to high 12's on street tires. Beat him by 6 to 7 car lengths!
