Not enough testing has been done. Most European countries oppose GM foods, and won't allow U.S. products to be imported for that reason.

Some fruits and vegetables have been modified to be resistant to pests (insects and such). Unfortunately, they're extremely nasty to the touch, and workers get rashes from picking them. What do you think happens when you eat them?

I guess I don't have a problem with selective breeding of plants, but when you insert strange genes into a plant you get something nature never intended, and the consequences are unpredictable - and potentially dangerous.

We don't know. I don't like them though. YOu can't just cut out the genes you want and stick it in a plant or animal. There are always genes that are added that the scientist don't really know about. They hide in the genes, in different formation of the introns and exons, they hide on the reverse transcription. Many environmentalist believes that they can carry allergens from one plant to the other. People who can't eat wheat would bite on a product made from a corn product and might have an allergic reaxtion and die, for example.

Let's put it this way. Mad cow was created because a bunch of farmers did not see a problem in cooking sick sheep and feeding it back to healthy cows. Unfortunately that simple act created a whole knew disease. I believe transgenic food is another example of science moving to fast. Unfortunately the transgenic corn has been found to contaminated wild corn, and we can't stop this from snowballing.

It would be nice to know now what the smart scientists have come up with in five or ten years. What will a lifetime of eating the stuff do to us? Nobody knows!

The US government insists they are safe.

I'm P-O'd about it because they allow them to be sold without requiring labels. I think we should be allowed to decide for ourselves if we want to eat them or not.
