I don't hate the Police, and in fact there's very few things I can actually say I do hate. I'm just curious as to why the British Police get such a bad rap. Seriously, I don't know.

I think the majority of people back the police but are frustrated at what has been forced upon them by the government. The police have their hands tied and are unable to give the service that the public deserve. I can understand why people are frustrated.
There are however many people who come on Yahoo who are anti police, that is clear to see. Most just generalise and cannot give any evidence to support their rantings.

It's not so much the Police as what Labour government targets have done to British policing. It basically means more serious crime is not being tackled, because breaking up a playground fight gets more ticks in the box, than arresting a lone drug dealer.

No...one should never HATE the police. The "scandals" and "brutality" incidents that are on the news are a tiny ratio compared to the good that they do. Not every policemen is a "peace officer" but as mentioned before the bad abusers of power are a tiny fraction of the general policemen population
If you do get a yes its probably from a disgruntle teenager

No I dont hate the law enforcement / police dept/
I do however hate cops that try to throw their weight around , because they wear a badge and think they're above the law. I live near 2 of them one retired and one a cop in another town nearby. They both hate cates and one of them has already shot and crippled one of my cats, and has thrown rocks at other ( the retired cop) The other one thinks he'sa bove the law and that if an animals or child puts one foot or paw on his grass he can shoot it or call the police on the kids. He says that the police in town wont listen to the citizens on problems if there is another cop invovled in the problem That they dont have to answer to me or anyone else about their actions.
Neither of these cops is willing to come talk to me in person and wont even look my way if I see them out. They've already decided I'm not worth knowing, or speaking to. So with cops like that on the force, I dont want anything to do with them
But for the good cops , I say more power to them as they're doing the job they're hired to do. Which is protecting us and helping to keep the peace.

That is such a blanket question...why hate the police? No other occupation has so much stress..chance of losing their lives..for pitiful pay and they deal with a lunatic society, hardly ever any thanks, in a world that is so violent the criminals, etc, have better wheapons than law enforcement...& IF a criminal/law breaker does go to court the police often see them walk out with a smirk on their faces...while victims spend the rest of their lives never recovering from crimes against them.

your question is not the answer, how can it be?
all i have to say to you is, there's one in every department and in every walk of life, not just in a goverment, a police force, an office , a newspaper, etc,......all on the actions of one or two people that you come into contact with, then say you hate the police, you hate that newspaper, you hate the goverment,
no i do not hate the police, but i have on two occassions come into contact with those who should not be serving in the the police force, are they still in a job? NO!

Amazing - you got 40 answers in 5 minutes! I don't hate police - I mistrust the office of police officer. It is most often abused and the men and women who hold the office do not weigh their words and actions against the cost on the lives on others.

No. I don't hate them. But there have been some of them that are bad. You never know who you can trust. I heard this quote one time (not exactly related to the police, but close):
I love my country. It's the government I'm afraid of!

yes. an alternative would be ones who could be bothered to do their jobs. And dont say this doesnt happen, ive seen it too many times. I know if any crime was commited against me i wouldnt bother calling the police again. the only option where i live is to find out who was and pay them a visit.
