Increasing attention span is important.
First, get rid of the TV. Any TV watching will destroy your progress and retard your efforts. I have never owned one. Don't play electronic games, either.
Second, do attention-expanding activities every day, and increase the number and duration of them. Here are some attention-expanding activities:
1. Take long walks. Walk 30 minutes, 15 out, 15 back, forcing yourself to acknowledge landmarks including lightpoles, trees, cars parked, and every possible detail in earth and sky. Then increase it to 20 minutes, 25 minutes, etc. until you can walk for 2 solid hours at least once a week at a quick pace and note everything on the way out and back.
2. Get a thesaurus, and read random pages to improve your vocabulary. Read and imagine. Spend time with reference works to train your brain.
3. Get non-text articles about your schoolwork to read when you lose focus on the actual subject text. A few minutes spent on a related topic will let you return to the real text refreshed.
4. Find ways to meditate. Take long baths, yoga and/or stretching exercises. A half hour of meditative focus before starting your study session can calm and focus the attention span significantly.
5. Get plenty of sleep. Take extra short naps whenever you can to ground yourself and avoid fatigue, which robs you of attention span.
No TV, electronic games or other time wasters can give you the time you need to practice attention span enhancing techniques as well as stop the drain of focus capability. Be sure to eat a nutrient-dense diet and hydrate well, as studying is taxing to the brain, and the brain uses more than half the nutrients that you consume.
Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Just realizing that problem may exist is huge help. Try identifying motivation why you want to increase your attention span, and when you feel it slipping quickly mentally recall motivation. Set your goals low at first and increase them over time. You could start playing checkers or chess.

First you need to be sure that you're listening and haven't already tuned out. Try to fix your posture, sit up straight, take notes, repeat back in your mind what it is you just heard. Ask yourself why you aren't paying attention in the first place, could it be you're not interested enough to give the issue attention?!?!?
I commend you on making the conscious attempt to improve, best advise I could give you is BECOME A BETTER LISTENER.. Good Luck!!

The resolution/solution to your question has to do with concentration. Try spending time concentrating on some small issues first. Then grow towards the hardest of all... "think of NOTHING" for as long as you can.

I believe Ginko is good for that. The only problem is remembering to take it everyday. I heard a comedian once say "If you can remember to take it every day, you don't need it."

Drink coffee in the morning. Coke also help, but it will commonly make you hyper\cranky. My best advice is to force yourself to stay focused, but what i said before definately helps. ;)
