All have their good points and each is different although Shotokan and Shorin-ryu are much more alike than either with Kenpo. Look at each and observe some classes and see which caters to what your interests are and reasons for taking martial arts. Shorin -ryu will give you more in the way of tradtional weapons trainging than Shotokan. Kenpo gives you more in the way of trapping and soft blocking techniques and open handed striking especially at the lower and intermediate ranks than either of the other two. Shotokan is a little more contemporary than Shorin-ryu and some Shorin-ryu stylists have the attitude that it was done that way two hundred years ago so that's how we are going to do it today. I would let my reasons for wanting to take martial arts along with affordability, and convenience be the factors that determine what style I would take. That way you are more likly to be happy with it, it wont break the bank, and it is something that you can get to and attend easily and more likly to stay with it and not drop out after just a month or two.

It depends on what you want to learn. I study american kenpo; but I should first point there are liteary hundreds of styles of karate, kung fu, tae kwon do, etc. I don't think any person has even heard of all them.
What is your goal from getting into the maritial arts; if its mainly self defense, then kenpo is your best bet, believe me. Also, kenpo has home study courses I know about. I might be biased, but I've been in both kenpo and shotokan karate(which is alot similar to shorin ryu) and didn't like. I took one or two lessons; kenpo im a black belt in. But your best bet is to asked to either observe or take part in a free class; almost all instructors do this for a new student. If they don't, then there's a serious problem.

Which ever one is taught in your town, otherwise, it won't matter.
