We did NOT even consider the codine in it and now we're worried that he's going to fail the test. It was literally only a half of a pill. Does anyone know anything about common drug screens and how much codine it would take for a positive result?

The prescription is in my name, NOT his. So if it's positive then we have no prescription with his name on it to give the employer.

They didn't ask him about ANY meds. He literally just went in the specimen cup and was done. No questions or anything! Does anyone know if it would be enough for a positive result? It had only been about 14 hours.

Well....
He totally failed the drug screen. They only found a very faint amount but they found it! They're allowing him to retake the test after he told them what he took. I never would've thought twice about giving him a 1/2 of the pill. How stupid am I?

Two to four days is the estimated time that this drug can be detected on a toxicology screen. Tylenol 3 is tylenol with codeine. Codeine is metabolized to morphine in the body. Morphine is an opiod, and this would very likely show up on a drug test, but that does not necessarily mean that the tox screen will definitely be positive.

The amount of codeine in 1/2 of a T3 is 15 mg. A very small amount. The half life of codeine is about 3 hours. (The half-life of a quantity is the time required for the quantity to decay to half of its initial value) So after 3 hours he only has half that amt in his blood stream. After another 3 hours, half of that. It will all be excreted in the urine. If he went to the bathroom after he took it, it should be out of his system after about 12 hours (assuming normal hydration.)

Yes, your employer can conduct the drug test however they like. It's cheaper for them to do it then to send you to a lab.

Codeine isn't an illegal drug. Its a commonly prescribed painkiller. I don't think you have much to worry about. If its comes up just be honest. And if his migraines are common, see a doctor.
I doubt he has enough in his system for it to show. They aren't going to fire your husband for taking pain reliever. Just calm down.

Relax, codine isn't on the list. Besides, it would take alot more than half of a pill to register as an opiate(Derivitives of opium, such as Heroin, Morphine, or Codine).
