Is it the zionist middle eastern nation?
Or... is it the jewish people wherever they may be and those who are grafted in through messiah?

The nation of Israel is all the Jewish people, wherever they may be. However, I am not sure I would call those grafted in by the messiah "jewish". They may be "children of Abraham" and they may be "God's chosen people". However, the problem you run into is with the jewish people who are not messianic - technically, according to scripture they are still "God's people" but not christians because they have rejected their messiah. So there is still a separation for now - until the time all men see the truth and find the messiah.

i don't know about the messiah part, but the Nation of Israel is all Jewish people everywhere.
the state of Israel is the one in the middle east.

It's a country, like any other country. It has a stock market, TV stations, unemployed, and millions of ordinary people.
