You'd probably get off on an insanity plea. I haven't ever heard of anyone being arrested for trying to commit suicide, but they have been committed to a psychiatric hospital after an attempt.

No, I have a personal friend who attempted to commit suicide and failed. The police were called while he was in the process of doing so and the only thing that happened was he was admitted to the local psych ward for two weeks and released with anti depressants and manditory check ups with a local psyciatrist.

If you try to fail, and you succeed....
Which have you done...?
Oh, I should include that I've solicited ANY statute which criminalizes suicide or attempted suicide. I see that people still claim that it's illegal without providing a single reference to law.

Suicide is not illegal (in the past there have been laws making it illegal, but they were never enforced). However, you will be petitioned and deemed a danger to yourself, resulting in court ordered treatment.

I'm gnna say yes. think about it - if you attempt to kill someone else and fail, you're arrested, right? well, tht goes for yourself too. it's kinda messed up, really - why shouldn't you be allowed to die? it's ur life. Anyway tho. yeah, it's illegal.

it depends where you decide to do this...
if its anywhere public, you would potentially be endangering other lives, so yes it is a crime
after attempted suicide, people go under full psychiatric evaluation, and if decided they are ill... they would be facing some time in a psychiatric ward, if not jail...

THIS QUESTION REALLY HITS HOME FOR ME. YES I THINK IT SHOULD BE A PUNISHABLE CRIME IF COMMITTED.BUT I DO NT THINK YOU GET ARRESTED FOR FAILING. I HOPE THAT IT GIVES EVERYONE AROUND THAT PERSON A WAKE UP CALL. WE ALL WISH MY HUSBAND WOULD HAVE GIVEN US ONE. THEN MAYBE HE WOULD HAVE REALIZED HOW MANY PEOPLE LOVED HIM. FRIENDS ,FAMILY , COWORKERS, EVEN OLD CLASSMATES. SOME PEOPLE WE HADN'T SEEN IN YEARS. SO IS IT PUNISHABLE NO I DO NT THINK SO BUT AT LEAST THEY CAN GET THAT PERSON THE HELP THAT HE OR SHE NEEDS AND SHOW THEM HOW IMPORTANT AND VALUABLE LIFE IS. LIVE EVERYDAY TO THE FULLEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
