i found a stray cat in my buildings stair way. she's pretty young and has been there for about 2-3 days.i'm pretty sure she was abondened cause if her owners wanted her they would have put up stuff saying they lost their cat but it's ben 3 days people just walk past her and dont pay any mind to her. i don't want her to have to stay there all night with nothing to eat. i gave her food(was that dumb) and she won't eat it. my biggest fear is someone opening the door letting her out into the real world. help please?!!?!?!

My mom says to leave the cat there and erase it from my memory. but what if tmrw when i'm taking the stairs to go to school i see her still sitting there? and the next day after that and the next? i'll feel really bad, i want to take her in without my mom knowing and put up posters but there's no where i can hide her. i think she's in heat(if that's how you spell it) everytime i go to her she's akways rubbing her self on me and the things around her, she has a reallly sad look on her face too =(

It was fine that you put food out for her to eat to make sure she wasn't hungry. Now that you have established that she's not hungry or thirsty I would call your local shelter and see if they can come pick the cat up. If the cat will let you pick her up, you can take her yourself. If you think she may have an owner, take a picture of her before the humane society takes her or you drop her off, and make flyers saying 'found' and give the date found, description of the cat, and the name, address, and phone number of the shelter you dropped her off at. Put it in your hallway, on your building, local stores, etc. If no one claims her she'll be put up for adoption, if you're interested you can tell the shelter if no one claims her you'd like first dibs on adopting her.

You sound like a very caring person. That is very nice of you to give the cat food. Have you asked people in the building if they know who the cat belongs to? Maybe the cat lives nearby; I wouldn't assume she's been abandoned. I think the best thing to do is take the cat in your home (if that's possible), to keep her from escaping into the world and possibly ending up in danger. Then, I would put up posters/signs and also inform the manager or whoever owns and manages the building that you found a cat in the stair way. You should bring her to an animal shelter, since she's young she'll be adopted pretty quickly.

Don't feel guilty for providing food and water to an abandoned cat. She probably won't eat because she is stressed. If you or any of your neighbors can't take her in, you might want to call some local no kill shelters, to see if they have room to take her in and get her adopted. You could also post a found cat flyer around...maybe she escaped and her owners really are looking for her. Good luck!

Firstly get your local police take care of her ... coz she could be someone elses and they can come over you screaming.

Also you can do some basic cat tricks to keep her comfy from the below source... it has some good sublinks.
