I come from a former Amish/Mennonite family, who still believes in Non-resistance. Is it wrong for me to join the military and (as they believe) dis honor them?

Others have advised you to follow your own feelings. I don't know whether you are religious yourself, but I would suggest moving that focus away from your and your family's feelings towards God's will for you. If after prayer and searching, you are given your answer, I think you will also be given the resolve to do what you are directed to do, regardless of whether that's to join, join in a non-combatant role, or not join at all. I also think that perhaps your family would be more accepting of a decision made after sincerely open prayer (no fair just going through the motions!).

it is a deep personal choice to volunteer for the military under the best of circumstance. it is understandable that you would like your families approval in this or any decisions, but ultimately it is still a personal decision that you and you alone will have to make.

Only YOU can honestly answer that question. the thing you need to be asking yourself is; do YOU believe in the pacifist way of life? if so, then no, you do not belong in the military.

You do what you feel is right. If that is what you want then your family should be proud, not dishorored.

The question you should be asking yourself is; do you want to kill or be killed for imperial goals and, to help line the pockets of the war profiteers?

Or, if you prefer more romantic ideals, for the honor of your country. Ultimately the choice is yours, but you'll have to accept that if you decide to do this you'll be hurting people who care about you.
