1. whats your denomination?
2. how old are you?
3. whats your parents denomination?
my contention is (and i may be completely wrong), atheists and agnostics are going to be (on average) older than Christians and Muslems...and Christians are the most likely ones who share the same denomination as their parents....which leads me to a 4th question (you don't have to answer this one as its unprovable)....if your parents hadn't passed their beliefs to you at your most influential age, would you still be what you are?

4. Thank the Lord I was raised in a Christian home. I will agree that in some ways it is easier to find and accept the Lord if you have grown up exposed to it. However, I have done quite a bit of reading and searching to confirm for myself the teachings of my denomination compared to what the Bible says as well as what other faiths believe. I am probably more conservative than my parents were on some things, just because I think our society has become somewhat more polarized and the "lines in the sand" have become more clearly drawn. In my teens & 20's I did not follow my parents' values or the teaching of my church closely, and I have had to deal with the consequences and regrets of sin in my life because of it. So, even though I was influenced by my upbringing, my faith now is very definitely my own. I get your point, though.

4. If your parents hadn't passed their beliefs to you at your most influential age, would you still be what you are? I have no way of answering this because I really don't know. My parents did pass their beliefs onto me and I am who I am. That's like asking me what route I would take out of a burning building that I had never been in before.

Denomination? That assumes everyone is of the same religion. You should have asked "What religion, if any, and what denomination, if any."
Anyway, my answer is NONE.
29
Orthodox Christian
EDITED TO ADD - "i guess i was wrong with my assumption. and most are not the same as thier parents."
This extremely small sample size, with an extremely biased response won't prove or disprove anything. Large studies have shown that most kids grow up believing in the same religion (but perhaps not the exact same denomination) as their parents.
If that WEREN'T true, then the Middle East wouldn't be mostly Muslim, and Mexico wouldn't be mostly Catholic Christians. But it IS TRUE.

Just volunteering my answer here. I don't know if I would be SDB had my parents been something else. But I do know that I have remained a Christian SDB by choice. My parents are both dead now, and I have some siblings who have remained SDB while others have moved on to other denominations, so if I wasn't convinced that I'm in the right church for me, I would go elsewhere.

4. Honestly, I'll believe that I'd would have been a Buddhist much earlier. I've been Buddhist for 2 yrs now but I had very atheistic thoughts all through my early years. I was an atheist for a while but found secular Buddhism more my cup of tea.

1. Non religious but a believer.
2. 45
3. Not believers.
4. They didn't pass their beliefs on to me and I am where I am. I am a believer because I have seen things that can't be explained by mere science. I have also had experiences that could only be called supernatural. I am a very logical person (people used to call me Spock) but logic only takes you so far and then you just have to take a leap of faith.
