As other answers have noted ... Flowers are an ideal choice. I would get a nice mixed bouquet at a local florist. I would resist the temptation to buy a large plant or roses though... Just get a simple mixed bouquet.
I would stay away from food gifts as the hostess may have carefully planned his/her menu.

Usually a bottle of wine is a standard gift, but some cut flowers or a small potted plant is also a good "host" gift. You can also bring a small dessert or delicacy, preferably something from your country.

You could ask your husband's coworker if there's anything you can bring, like part of a dessert or something.
But flowers is always a nice gesture.

Well, a bottle of wine is the most accepted gift to bring with you here. Aside from that, you could bring something for dessert.

If not wine, then flowers or candy. A token gift would do, something small, and if you're not a native American, something from your country would be nice.

Flowers are always well appreciated.
I know you don't want drinks, but a good wine is also a nice gesture.
