If you do believe that prayer actually causes events to happen, why do you believe that? How can you believe that? Forgive my bluntness, but that just sounds like make believe to me. Believing that wishing and hoping actually causes events to occur is a very magical way of thinking. Am I looking at prayer incorrectly or missing the point?

yes, God answers your needs and not your wants, u cant pray for a ipod and wake up next morning to fin one there.... but he answers prayers in a MIRACULOUS way, uc Christians believe God DOES answer prayer..

here is an example...

My friend was really sick, she wouldn't eat and was dignosied anorexia, we had a prayer group in my school for her and God answered our prayers and she is now healthy again! :D

want another example?? this will make u go WOW!!

A boy from a non-christian family, but the family is well known in my village, they are nice people. The boy was 17 and suddenly diagnosed with Meningitous, the serious kind. He was rushed to hostipital and in 2 hours was in a deep coma. My church held a special prayer week for this boy, it wasn't looking good but God reached out his hand and healed the boy.
The doctors were amazed because they had just given the parents the choice to turn off his life support machine, but he woke up when no one had expected him to do. They called him 'Miracle Boy''. What a miracle eh??

(sorry for the quick ending i have to go!)

so u have the views of a 15-year old who is a Christian, and i believe God can answer prayer, but only prayers for sick like my examples but he DOES answer all sorts!!

God Luck!! xxx

The evidence that prayer is ineffective has been building. The most recent reliable investigative research was conducted by a Harvard team of medical doctors and the results were released last April. That study reported that prayer failed to make a positive difference in the outcome of recovering post-op patients. The control group prayed for actually did worse than those who weren't prayed for. Prayer had a decidedly negative effect yielding post-op complications at a 59% higher occurrence.

Prior to this study, the effectiveness of prayer has been examined by some rather questionable means with poorly controlled conditions and by some rather shoddy researchers who allowed bias to enter into their results.

I pray but I do not pray for things or events. I pray for guidance, strength to overcome a hard situation, peace with not having all the answers for life and forgiveness. I also pray that God will use me in any way He can.

Yes. you are missing the point. How? you misunderstand what faith is. The definition of faith explains why we who pray believe in what we do.

I believe that prayer does make a difference because it says so in the Bible.

God answers like .00000001% of prayers

not surprising because supposed 'Christians' pray for everything, from cures to Nordic Trak treadmills...

(yes, events can and do occur) no, it's not "magic" and to be given certain powers, the Lord has to "trust you with them" (you have to be mature and grown up in your heart and mind) but, it is all the power of God, make no mistake about this.... :)
