The bible gives us an age of the universe at around 5,000 years old; yet astronomy, biology, geology, and nuclear physics all give us ages in the billions of years. Is there a high percentage of Christians that don't believe the scientific community's age of the universe?

If you don't believe the scientific communities age of the universe, then why would there be so much independent evidence suggesting an age in the billions of years?

Geology says the earth is 4.5 million years old, and astronomy says the universe is at least 13 billion years old.

Biblical scholars trace the lineages through the bible and they are the ones who have come up with an age of the universe at around 5,000 years old.

Michaelgibons - maybe you should read the question and check your facts before you make yourself look stupid.

I don't buy the mathmatics that some Biblical scholars use to support the 5000 year theory.
I think you'll find that most Christians, Jews and Muslims are comfortable with an older universe. The miracle of existence is no less impressive with 13 billion years than it is is impressive at 6 days.

Five thousand years is impossible. Christians have to face the fact, Jesus, Abraham, Moses, and all of the other biblical figures did not follow the Gregorian Calendar(the calendar we follow today). A year back in the days of Adam and Eve could've been a century. Also remember, after Adam and Eve and their sons everyone pretty much gave into peganism. There is an undefined amount of time in between Adam and Eve and Abraham and Sarah. God appeared out of the blue to Abraham. Also, God might not have created humans until 6000 years ago, but created the Earth billions of years ago and took His time with it to make it beautiful for us. Sorry for getting off topic. The percentage must be considerably high considering how ignorant most Christians are these days. About 45% I'd say.

There are two "clocks" by which years are measured. A solar year is the time that it takes the Earth to complete an orbit around the sun. An atomic year is measured by the rate of decay in radioactive elements.
When it is understood that atomic processes have not be uniform over time, then we see that the creation is about 6000 solar years old and about 14 billion atomic years old.

I'm not sure what the percentage is who believe in an ancient earth, but I'd guess it's close to half. Maybe a little more. I'm a creationist, but the ancient age of the earth seems pretty plain to me. I see it in the plain text of the Biblical account in a Hebrew study, so it doesn't contradict my faith at all.

You used the word "believe" so many times!
Science is not about belief - it is about study - if we
study it enough, we will come up with the right
answer eventually - well, maybe.
There is really no way to prove the age of the
universe with absolute certainty.
God knows the age of the universe and earth!

The Earth is estimated to be 4.4 billion years old.
I am a Christian and believe that is correct, and it does not diminish God at all.
The Bible does not give us an age at all...
C'mon!! Two incorrect statements passed as fact in one short post. Hurts your credibility.

There is a high percentage of Christians who don't believe the universe is that old. There are even a fair amount of scientists that don't believe it.
