Should not lie to your children, but careful present the right picture. Telling a lie means much damage to the children than a simple unpleasant truth.

It's so easy for you to be cut and dry. Santa Claus was a real person. Read up on it before you say parents are lying. Do you even know the REAL story?
Apparently you don't. Are you upset because your parents didn't let you enjoy the thrill of Santa Claus? Yes, I do tell my son about Santa Claus. When he's ready to know all about it he'll tell me.
Stop saying people are lying. It's just like a fairy tale. It's fun for the kids.

Santa isn't a lie. He is a real being... St. Nicholas. :)
My children believe in Santa, they're ages 8 and 5. There is nothing wrong with that, it's all about the innocence of young kids, there is something magical to them about Christmas.
Naturally, my kids also know that the true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birthday. :)
Such a shame when adults want to ruin things for the innocent by saying that there is no such thing as Santa when Santa is real, as I mentioned above. St. Nicholas.

Nope, How would that build trust, I tell them stories and yes the santa one is included, but we don't do gifts from santa..
I'd much rather spend the money taking them shopping for each other for something nice.
You know tha Magical Feeling In Their Childs Eye everyone is talking about.... try volunteering or donating somewhere with your kids, maybe a food pantry or something like that. You'll see that look from kids and ADULTS who are thankful they get to eat.

No, I tell them the truth about Santa Claus - that there is joy & love & wonderful magical surprises out there in the world for them & that they should embrace them, appreciate them, look for them & look forward to them; that they should believe in the beautiful possibilities.

I don't call it lying , I just call it ilusion , I love that my kids have the ilusion in a fantasy way that sooner or later they will discover.. But I enjoy helping them writting the letter to Santa, and how they prepare cookies and the glass of milk along with a Thank you note and safe trip & see them wake up so happy because Santa came and left presents.. So I just guess all kid should have a time like this. I don't feel I am hurting them in any way but as they will grow and they decide to know what is going on I will tell them .But again I don't think is wrong to believe that Santa is coming at Christmas Eve and deliver presents to all the kids in the world...This is just my personal opinion maybe not all of us think the same and I respect everyones opinion... :)

I don't have children, but I personally never believed in that crap. I never even heard about the jolly fat guy until I started preschool. The whole concept of an obese man in the chimney sounded so bizarre even at the age of four.

OK, this question is starting to get as old as the questions about abortion, Am I pregnant, Circumcision, etc.
Children are not harmed for life by being told about Santa Clause. I suffered no lasting damage, nor did any of my 3 siblings. Don't be a Scrooge and ruin it for children!

Mom and Dad always told us about the 'story' of Santa Claus and we just happened to believe he was real... anyway when I was upset finding out he wasn't, mom was like, 'we told you the STORYof... blah blah...
But yeah, I'm planning to tell my daughter about Santa because I remember those early years as being so magical thinking that Santa was on his way... It's worth it even if your kid is mad at you later!
