that when you are in the dentist office,when they are working on your mouth its sort of awkward? where are you supposed to look?

Most patients close their eyes. Some just kind of look around. A few, not many, look directly at me. I can tell if people are scared by their eyes or if I am on a sensitive spot. Now that I think about it, I somewhat depend on a persons eyes to let me know what kind of patient they will be.

I close my eyes or look at the ceiling. It's more awkward when they talk to you! I was getting a root canal and had a dam in my mouth and everything and they asked "so any plans this weekend?" as a matter of fact, I DID have really good plans but I just grunted "uh uh." LOL!

So funny what people think.....As a patient, I close my eyes. As a dental assistant, I don't really care where people look....It doesn't bother me for people to look at my eyes...I just give a smile through my mask ( and you can tell by someones eyes when they smile at you.) The only thing that makes me feel awkward is if patients (MEN!!!!!!!!!) that stare at my chest and don't try to hide the fact that they are doing so! ; )

i think that most people just close their eyes to avoid the awkward eye contact with the dentist... and there is really nothing to look at anyway, so just close your eyes

i am always looking at what the dentist`s doing...I asked her to show me the nerve after she removed it lol
when she takes a break, I always ask....what is that? what's that called? what are you doing now?

I try not to be stupid and make situations awkward. have you thought that billions of people have been i nthe same situtation? well, yeah. and i never look directly at their faces.
