Well, they can be just like any other fruits and veggies in the commercial market. But the breed is not man made or anything. They're all natural!

Could be, but probably not.

I was in the greengrocery business back in the 60s, when genetically engineered food was only a figment of a science fiction writer - and I was selling them then.

No they are a real root vegetable, like yams. They just have more of a potato shape and they don't get as orange as a yam when cooked.

I suppose if they are perfectly round with no potatoe eyes and taste super sweet they might be....but most are not.
