Because we spend a great deal of time spoiling their "fun", like stopping them from drinking underage, taking their pot and giving them tickets for driving too fast. We also kick them out of places they like to hang out, like parks after dark and make their friends leave the house when they have a wild noisy party.

To be honest I think your question is unfair to most "young people", some (a minority I hope) hate cops for a variety of reasons, while many likely don't hold much of an opinion either way, while some support us.
I tend to get upset when people "lump" all cops together, and don't see why young people should be treated the same way.
As to why a young person might "hate" the cops more than a more mature person; Plenty of reasons, the biggies being when you're young you're more likely to get to get into trouble with the police, peer pressure, more easily influenced and less critical thinking skills and the whole rebellion/teen angst deal.
Despite what some people say, most kids and teens are no better or worse than preceding generations, they're just trying to find their way.

I think it is a bit of a sweeping generalisation to say 'most' young people.
I have taught my sons to respect the police and to be grateful for their presence. On numerous occasions my eldest (15) has arrived home and relayed stories of chats he has had with police officers and never with any malice.
However I would agree that there does seem to be a rising tide of resentment towards the police and other figures of authority and I believe you need to look towards the childs upbringing for reasons of this as a lot of this resentment would appear to be passed on by the parents.
Unfortunately it would seem respect is something that nowadays is reserved for ones peers and nobody else.

Because crime is attractive to young people...
The glorification of gangs, guns, drugs, being pimps etc by the media has made young people aspire to that way of life.
This makes the police obvious enemies.
The police are far from perfect in my view.. and are far to much like an enclosed industry.. They have tendencies to look after each other if you know what I mean... However without the police this country would be in a state of anarchy.
An increasing number of people are only law abiding for fear of losing their liberty. This makes Police and Prisons a necessity such a shame isn't it really... The government say they are adding to police numbers and everyone thinks great.. I am hoping for the day when they can reduce the numbers instead.

Because young people have not been taught discipline. The PC Human Right`s Brigades started that sh1t happening.
They have a chip on their shoulder and they know that the law of this country is a JOKE.
A few good back handers across the face would not go amiss now and again with some of those creeps.

I think some of them "don't intend to commit any serious crime requiring the police's time" but expect the police to arrest them anyway, either for a minor crime not "requiring the police's time" or for a crime that they did not commit.

I think you've answered your own question
but would challenge the idea "most" of the young "hate" the police. More than a few DO regard it as"cool" to sneer at all forms of authority - but they simply show how dumb, nerdy and ignorant they are. Our police are massively overstretched, trying to fulfil Society's right to live peacefully and free of crime, violence, etc. Silly youths who
who fail to appreciate such facts of life are
NOT cool - just stupid.

Mostly peer influence, also it is easy to be 'cocky' when in a group.
Britain is lucky to be policed by a group of people drawn from the community. Ideally this means that the police have similar values and ideals to the community.
Yes coppers may be annoying, because they question what you are up to etc. They are there for a reason, questioning minor wrongs may nip larger wrongs in the bud.
Young people form groups ( naturally ) and naturally moan, complain and even express hate towards those who try to curb their excesses. Rebellion towards authority figures is usual in adolescents. It occurs in most primates.
Yes they do it to be 'cool' etc, unfortunately the police rarely let minor challenges go, so being lippy may lead to a questioning, and an unpleasant time in a smelly cell, or some other waste of time. Best by far is to answer a direct question honestly.
Useful answers ' Just been sitting here quietly with my mates, Officer'
'Noise, officer? We may have been a little loud, but perhaps its time to go home now.'
Police officers will generally look kindly on young people who co-operate, quieten down when asked etc - no trouble.
If you square up to them like a chimpanzee defending its territory, or act like you have something to hide, they will be interested. Remember all beat coppers want to be CID. If you act suspiciously, they will chew you. They are all looking for the next big drug/knife/gun bust and if you gob off - stand by.
How many middle aged drunk drivers are smashed over the bonnet and searched - few, because they rarely mouth off.
Looking hard in front of your mates- gains you little.
pissing off the police - search, night in cells, crim record
look up desmond morris for primate reactions to dominant males

You don't have to be a kid to hate the police. My hatred for the police goes back to being in high school. Cops would pull us over all the time. Couldn't even drive after dark. They would search the car without permission. Yell at us. Threaten to call our coaches or parents. For what? Police are normally just military guys pissed that they didn't get to see "proper action". They have a power trip glitch. That's what it takes to be a cop. That's not a very pleasant personality trait for most people. Especially the kids that have to deal with the brute of it.

Do They Really Hate Them or just do it to be "cool" or part of the "gang"<<
Its what they see on TV and hear from people who who get caught for doing things they shouldn't. I have this problem at home. People believe the sensationalist junk because its more entertaining than hearing about the police officer who saved someones life.
