When buying a dog, which sex do you perfer to get, a male or a female? Which is easier to house break? Or just a better dog to have? I know all dogs have their own personality, depending on the breed and what not, but if you had a litter or puppies in front of you, and got told to pick one, would you take a male or a female? Thank you!

well i love both male and female...female are esasier to house break ...but when they have their period they tend to get blood every where...(my baby pepper ann would not wear her "puppy pads" for anything...so we had to get her fixed)...if i had to pic out of a litter i would pic the puppy that had the charictaristics i was looking for...such as playfulness...which one looks like a better gard dog ect.
good luck...hope i helped

It really doesn't matter which type is better, both males and females when they are puppies you can start to train them and they can be excellent dogs. I myself would go with a female not because they are easier to train but because they have a natural instinct to protect than what the males do.

I would take a male. Ive always liked the males better then females. I really dont know why..They just act different. I have 4 females right now and one male and he is the biggest baby ever, dont tell anyone else but hes a much better dog then the girls..he's a big baby!

In my experience, I have found that the male seems to listen more, females seem to be more stubborn. Also, I have a Miniature Schauzer, and he is super smart. I love him. And he doesnt shed much at all. If you want an inside dog, I would not recommend a lab or golden retriever, as the retriever will shed ALOT and they both will rip your personal stuff to shreds.

if you are choosing a dog from a litter, sit in with the puppies.. dont move or talk to them and see what one comes to you. thats the one you pick! but i would have to say females.

I would totally pick a boy dog. Even though I am a girl its because they do more tricks, play with you alot more because they know how to not bite as bad as the boys. And by the way Boys are a hole lot better than girls when it comes to house breaking. Because girls are harder to go out into a storm or the rain. And they cant fight by themselves. Boy dogs do alot.

My mother always told me that female dogs were better behaved and easier to train.
She has a 4-year-old Chessy/Lab mix (female) who is way more hyper and not as well behaved as my 3-year-old Shar Pei/Australian Cattle Dog mix.
I don't think it much matters.

In my experience, I've found females generally more active and smarter.. and males easier to train.

I was told female dogs are more loveable, not as standoffish as a male

I personally like females because I tend to lean toward my own gender more. But I think they are less argressive unless they just had puppies but that is just a mother defending her puppies.
