Here are reliability ratings of all 4 vehicles:
Chevy Equinox http://autos.yahoo.com/chevrolet_equinox_ls_2wd-ratings/
(the Hummer doesn't have a page, but is not really known for reliability, or gas mileage as it matters.)
Hyundai Santa Fe http://autos.yahoo.com/hyundai_santa_fe_gls_discontinued-ratings/
Ford Edge http://autos.yahoo.com/2007_ford_edge_se_fwd-ratings/
Since the Edge seems like the most reliable one, I would get it. Another reason why it would be a smart buy for me is because it got a top safety pick by government ratings. It gets up to 25 mpg. Check out the specs, pictures, options, and comparisons here: http://www.fordvehicles.com/crossovers/edge/?searchid=426441|15932595|80549089
As for Ford, it got 41/44 of its cars recommended over others, and the Edge was in that list.

Out of those 4 options I'd definitely go with the Santa Fe as its the best looking, though the Edge is nice looking too. I don't like the H3 because it is so slow and underpowered, Equinox is okay but nothing special. The new Santa Fe has a great warranty 5 yrs 60K miles, very good V6 and plenty of options for under $30K. You might want to shop the Veracruz too if your family includes several teenagers.

Talk about two different cars! The H3 is a nice sport ute that can go about anywhere. The equinox is a nice people mover. Have you thought about a compromise? Perhaps a Jeep Grand Cherokee? They are both decent and are going to reliable it really becomes a matter of what you like better.
by the way hyndais don't last forever not the best. Warranty wise you cant beat the jeep Lifetime powertrain.

Both the Hummer ands the Equinox are GM products. If I were looking in the General's stable for a great SUV I'd look at the GMC Acadia. It's newer technology than the older Eq and it's not nearly as ostentatious as a Hummer.

Equinox and Hummer are 2 BIG no nos. I would go for the Ford Edge. It's the best choice if you ask me. I sell cars so I would know. Check out the ratings on them. GM products aren't very good. Ford is coming up pretty good. I think they have 41 out of 44 vehicles rated average or above average in the Consumer's Report. I think GM has 13 as below average, That alone stands for something don't you think?

Buick Enclave.....
No. My fantasy not yours....
Anyways.... while the H3 is nice they are becoming quite common and are true gas hogs. The Chevy (I drive an HHR) is pretty true to the gas milage they advertise. The Ford Edge is quite "cute." And Hyundai's last forever. Up to you... I'd go with which one has more backseat leg room and the color you won't get sick of.

Well my advice is don't buy 1 at all.
Thy drink gas, are a poor investment, and cost way to much.
With the price of gas going up ( AGAIN) it is unwise to buy something that gets the worst gas mileage in the ind rusty.
