A lot less than it'll hurt the cats who have to be put down when ur cats have kittens and add to the overpopulation problem.
Seriously though, cats seem to recover their happy perkiness within a week, and if a cat was annoyed at you, you'd know, they can sulk for weeks if unhappy.

No, fixing a cat doesn't hurt.

What hurts is NOT fixing the cat. Un-fixed cats are more susceptible to reproductive cancers, feline urological syndrome (FUS) and a host of other PAINFUL (and sometimes deadly) maladies, in addition to filling up the local animal shelter with kittens that will most likely end up euthanized (killed) instead of being adopted. By the way, the humane society will not adopt out an animal until it's been fixed. There are some very good reasons for that.

Get the cat fixed ASAP.

Not really. The cat might be sore for the first few days following an operation, but after that, it will be fine. My vet told me that cats adjust very well to being spayed or neutered and as far as they are concerned, nothing has changed for them. In fact, he also told me that they adjust much better to being fixed than dogs do.

It's surgery, there will be some pain, but that only lasts a few days in a male, a week for the female (the vet can give you pain meds for them). ANY surgery is going to hurt but it heals and the results after that are worth it.

cats are put under anistetic until they are done, some cats feel it, others dont... but its better for them, and the only thing that might happen is they get sore for a few days... and not really even that.. if yoru worried ask your vet to. they could explain everything and if its a good vet they'll be willing to talk to you about all of it and any possible side effects. but please dont hesitate to fix them, ontop of keeping pet population down it also helps with health problems such as cancer that can grow in a female Or male.. that can kill them...

The surgery is done under anesthesia, of course. He (or she) is sore for a few days, that's certain, just as a person would be after surgery - but we don't let that stand in our way when WE need surgery.

I think they're a lot more miserable when they are outside, fighting with other cats and getting sick, or bearing litter after litter of unwanted kittens, or inside, wanting to go out and mate, and driving their owners mad with meowing :-)

It's less painful for the male. My male cat was ok the same night I picked him up at the vet. For females, it is very painful, my little girl was really out of it for a couple of days and you could see she had pain! She just slept alot.

I'm sure the kitty is sore for a few days, especially if its a female. But during the actual procedure they do not feel anything because they are knocked out.

well it doesn't hurt them during the procedure but it might be a little painful after wards. kinda like surgery on people. in the end they're fine.

For a couple of days while they heal. Its easier on males than females. However, its worth it.
