People who don’t believe in a god always have a hard time labeling themselves. Atheist doesn’t cut it for everyone. There’s also Humanist and Freethinker and Secularist and Non-theist and on and on…
Several years ago, Paul Geisert and Mynga Futrell came up with an umbrella term for all those people: Brights.

I'd rather not have to be called anything but human.

Why to I have to have a label just because I don't agree. Labels are for religions. We did not label ourselves, they did.

No thanks atheist works just fine for me. The problem is that many people use these terms and have no idea what the mean. Some of the other terms you use have other values and beliefs with them all I want to say is I'm atheist.

It would be extremely arrogant of me to assume that I was in anyway more intelligent than people of faith. Atheist suits me fine as it describes me ( from the Greek "A Theos - Without God")

I don't care for it at all. 'Humanist' comes closest to solving the PR problem at the moment, but 'atheist' is still accurate and universally understood (if misrepresented).

Ick... *shudders* I toyed with calling myself a "Bright", but it sounds too "cult-ish" for me.

I prefer Freethinker or Skeptic or Humanist.

I would like to see some evidence that calling ourselves "brights" will help our PR problem, instead of just taking it on faith that the word will be well-received.

I don't like that term. It implies that everybody else is "dull."

I don't see why we can't just call ourselves atheists.

Nope, thanks. Atheist means not believing in gods. Humanist and Free thinkers are philosophies.
