Yet feel free to pick and choose which ones they will obey? Very very few observe the Sabbath in the correct way. Many do not honor their mothers and fathers. Many Covet. It seems like the height of hypocrisy to claim that these 10 commandments are Gods word and not to be broken yet they break one or two all the time. Please do not give the line about Jesus coming and washing away all the old ways as you still use the 10 commandments and plenty of other old testament passages to judge others.

Yeah i realize that the Book of the Dead had a lot more than 10 commandments and since that is where the 10 came from you are right.
You have a nice afternoon too miss lady.

It was an honest question not meant to judge. I was having a debate with a Christian workmate and this came up.

Thank you all for your answers, i did not mean to insult anyone. I honestly just got into a heated debate with a friend/Co-worker and it seemed to me that he was being a hypocrite. Telling me that one must follow the 10 commandments... yet i have worked on a Sunday with him. I appreciate your answers.

According to the Christians, the old Mosaic law only applies to sinners and homosexuals -not to the Christians themselves.

Most Christians agree that NO human is WITHOUT sin.
Yes, the 10 commandments, as all commandments are supposed to be followed. That doesn't mean that anyone will ever be able to follow all of the commandments 100% of the time.
The best we can do as humans is try.
Of course, some Christians do fail to "remove the plank from your own eye before attempting to remove the splinter from your brothers", which it seems that you are doing here.
You obviously aren't Christian. Which is fine by me. But before you attempt to get into a battle of wits on Biblical understanding, you must first arm yourself with understanding.
I will admit, there are many Christians who pick apart their favorite part of the Bible and use it as a weapon against people, but, those are the loudest of minorities within the Christian faith. They do not speak for me, nor (I believe) do they speak for God. God spoke for himself, through the arms and pens of those who wrote the scriptures.
It is up to you to simply read, understand, and do your best to comply based on how the Word speaks to you.
After reading some of your edits:::
You should have prefaced your statement with something along the lines of "I was debating with a coworker, and I need help understanding".

They are to be followed, but we all know that only Christ was sinless, hence we are all sinners. We do the best we can, but we're not perfect. You're absolutely right about the sabbath, but to be honest, most christians were brought up believing that Sunday is the sabbath, they have no clue that Constantine changed it from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown to Sunday in order to make it easier to convert pagans who worshipped their gods on Sunday. I'm guessing, "Remember the sabbath and keep it holy", does not mean its okay to change it to Sunday, but like I said, most christians are raised to believe it was always Sunday, or that it changed because Christ rose on a Sunday, (they didn't come up with that excuse till a couple hundred years later, after being questioned about it), so it was simply a plausable excuse. Most christians don't know that, and are content to go with tradition, not truth.
Chris, the Ten Commandments are separate from the Levitican (Mosiac) laws, which are the numerous and extremely strict laws that christians believe we were relieved of by Christ. We are not to break the Ten Commandments, but we can eat pork, wear different materials in our clothing , etc..

Why do most Christians claim that the 10 commandments are to be followed, and yet they still sin? Because most Christians (haven't met ALL of them, so I'll say MOST) are still HUMANS! Humans sin. Doesn't mean the 10 C's are not in God's will.
You know, some police commit crimes, but that doesn't mean that the law is a bad thing...

Let me explain something to you.
NO ONE IS PERFECT. We all fall short of the glory of God. Yes, the rules are in the Bible but we ALL break some of them from time to time or even frequently. NO BODY is perfect with the rules in the Bible all the time just like nobody follows all the manmade laws all the time. Everybody screws up whether you're Christian or Islam or athiest or whatever.
I'm sorry you've been judged by people using the Bible to make you feel inferior. Please understand that using the Bible to make Christians feel inferior is the same thing that has been done to you. I admit I'm not perfect. I TRY not to judge others. We all have faults. Just because someone says they are a Christian shouldn't mean they're judgmental HOWEVER plenty of them ARE. Please try not to judge a whole group by a few or even many bad apples.

I don't think anyone who is truly saved, wants to commit a sin, but being the imperfect man that we are, we sin and I guess will continue to till the end of time. I don't believe one picks and choses which ones to follow and which ones not too. Jesus Christ was on the only perfect man and will continue to be the only perfect man. Everyone falls short of the glory of God, Its with Gods mercy and grace that we can even hope to obtain a small portion of his greatness that he desires of us.
The seventh day was not so much to be a day of worship, as we think of such now,but rather a day of rest. All were to observe this day. Everything pertaining to the Law of Moses, in some way spoke of Christ. The Sabbath was no exception. It was meant to portray the fact that there is rest in Christ and in fact that there is rest only in Christ. (Mat. 11:28-30) So when a person presently accepts Christ, they are in effect keeping the Sabbath, which speaks of the rest that we have in Christ, rest from self effort to attain unto Righteousness. Even though there was no written command by the Holy Spirit to do so gradually we find Believers, during the time of the Early Church, as recorded in the Book of Acts making Sunday, the first day of the week, the day of our Lords Resurrection, their day of worship, etc. which is different than the Sabbath of old, because Christ has fulfilled in totality the old Jewish Sabbath.
Hope this helps!

surely Judaism, Islam and Christianity are all derived from Paganism as that each physique strategies of religion have been consequently at one time. most of the writings that have got here across there way into the text cloth of those religions might properly be traced directly to most of the writings of historic Egypt. The Neter became never understood to recommend a extensive style of deities. it became relatively the thank you to describe the attributes of the single genuine God. The ancients understood this. we are those that have grew to become them into polytheist as has the historic previous of Judaism, Islam and Christianity. lots simply by fact the various names that seem in the Torah, old testomony and the recent testomony. each be conscious utilized to God is descriptive and not a mark of id or call. surely Christianity has lost the way as had the Horus Cult of historic Egypt. Rome has in certainty geared up a God/guy for all Christians to worship as such jointly as leaving in the back of the genuine God. sure it relatively is blasphemy of just about an entire faith and of the worst style.

Who do you know have kept the 10 commandments except for Jesus Christ. From Adam to myself, we all have broken the a couple of them if not all of them. That's why I thank God for Grace and Mercy; not for those I wouldn't be talking to you now buddy.

as far as I am concerned. the 10 commandments should not be seen as a "christian thing"
you shouldn't commit adulatory
you shouldn't steal.... so on.
it's just called common since. If you refuse to believe that, then why is the American "Justice"/ legal system seem to have the same claims or policies?

The ten Commandments are to be followed. ALL of them. I don't pick and choose, I choose to follow all of them. However this does not make me perfect and guarantee that I will not mis the mark every once in a while. But thank God for his GRACE!!! :o)

We have all fallen short of perfection, but that doesn't lead us to change the standard of perfection. I have failed on occasion to honor my parents, but I wouldn't say this commandment no longer matters as a result of my failures to obey it. I would say I messed up, and I repent and seek to do better in the future.
Also, as thabonch points out above me, sometimes the key is in understanding the true meaning of the commandment.
